Confirmed with Link: Jake Evans signs extension (4 years, $2.85M AAV)

Nice!!! He took a discount to stay. He fell in love with the team and town. I just hope he stays healthy. Kent got this one right, which I can't say the same for Slaf and Guhle.

It's clear to me this organization is a positive environment. The players must have really bought in to the energy to take a pay cut on losing team. He could've had that contract on about 30 teams. It's great to see a bottom 6 guy at a bargain.
And I hope Laine can understand this and build on this. He can become a legend for this team, with Demidov coming, Slaf getting better, Suzuki and Cauf entering their prime.

Does this mean we are moving on from Dach?

Evans is a bottom 6er. No question. Beck is likely a bottom 6er as well. There is no chance we have faith that Dach is a 2C at this point.

Unless, they think Dach and Beck are likely to be interchangeable next year and either can play #2.

Suzuki
Dach/Beck
Evans/Beck
Beck/Evans

Underwhelming. We need a 2 C. If we acquire a 2C though.....we need to move Dach or Newhook IMO. Unless we move one of Anderson or Gally. We are running out of space. Something needs to happen to make room for Demidov, Beck and maybe even Kapanen.

Cole - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - legit 2C - Demidov
Heinemen - Dach - Newhook
Anderson - Evans - Gally
Beck

I want Beck slid into the lineup next year. And, I wouldn't mind seeing Kap as well. Either we aren't bringinin in a 2C or IMO Dach, Newhook, Andy or Gally are gone.

Armia is an interesting player with qualities the habs are short on. So is Savard, but Savard is aging and slowing down. Dvorak has been better this year, but not good enough to bring him back.

I'd miss Armia. Happy, and not surprised, about Evans.

Savard has been good on and off ice, but yes, age a big factor. Dvo has never justified his pay but his presence may still be missed. You are right that Armia would be the biggest loss and so maybe he gets brought back. Having a top PK is valuable and he and Evans kill it.

I dont see any of the 3 being traded.

Yeah I don’t think Evans had any impact on 2C, feels like that was written in the stars the day Dach went down

I doubt re-signing Evans has any impact on what happens with Dach.

Great news. I`m not a big Hughes fan but he knows contracts very well, this seems like a fair deal for both sides.

Evans gets rewarded with a well earned raise and security. The Habs get a reasonable contract for a player they have developed into a solid defensive player with some offense. And would think the locker room will appreciate the move.

Centres are so important (just ask the Bruins). Well done.

I mean..

He will make more in 4 years than most people on this forum will make in their lifetime for playing a sport he loves.

Yes he could have got more but all of these guys are overpaid bums, tbh.

Meh, the market dictates how much they make. I don't care, I'm not the one paying them. He lost out on 4 maybe 5 mil total. For a guy with like 7 mil in career earnings, that's a lot to say no to but shows how strong the locker room is.

I was in the trade Evans camp for 2 reasons...
No way I give this mediocre player anything over 3 million, and secondly, if you can get a first pick, then trade him ASAP.
KH stood his ground and got him on a good team friendly deal. I am fine with it.

Depends. If he has invested his money wisely he has a lot more than 7 million.

I was going to say the same. It has nothing to do with Hugues being great, but all with Evans being a loyal dumb :toothless
Bit of both actually..............kudos to both of these guys. But more on Evans having the stones to tell his agent on how it is.

Fantastic deal for the Habs. And one I think Evans can be happy with as well.

At that cost and term if at some point he no longer has a role on the team he can be moved out or down easy enough.

Happy to see this deal! Evans is a big part of our bottom 6 as a premier PKer, and he's shown us this year he can absolutely part of our solution going forward with his play, and especially at that cap hit.

If and when Dach makes it, it will be at RW.

Amazing signing! Evans has become one of the best in the NHL at his role as a 4th line center who is great on the PK, can play on the 3rd line and someone you trust on the ice in key situations. He's a very smart player. We're also extremely thin up the middle and Dvorak is a UFA.
