For some reason I thought if you played directly in the NHL after your draft year you became UFA at 25 years old. Why does his 20-21 not count ?
I initially thought same as you. Curious as to why as well. Wonder if it's because he on injured so long.

The injury and the fact that the injury was not NHL related- git injured elsewhere- maybe at world juniors so the season does not count as an accrued season. Not enough games played. 18 games would have been enough if the injury happened in NHL.

Who’s taking Armia and Hoffman? I know I wouldn’t if I was GM
I doubt other GMs will either.

Habs use LTIR a lot. They’ll find a way to keep burying overpaid guys that aren’t performing. So don’t be surprised if Drouin, Byron, Hoffman and/or Armia spend time on LTIR this season.

If the NHL gives you an exit ramp like LTIR. Feel free to use it. It gave your salary cap mess a get out of jail free card on both Weber and Price contracts. It’s done wonders for Tampa and other clubs as well.

In a hard cap league, LTIR is the biggest advantage I see for wealthy clubs with generous ownership. As I’ve thought more and more about salary cap circumvention by clubs like Montreal and Tampa, I’m increasingly OK with it. The clubs have wealthy/generous owners and strong fan support to help boost the teams bottom line. They deserve a little advantage for their respective generosity.

This is correct, injury occurred at World Juniors.

Steep for what he is now, banking on him improving due to draft position.

Not a terrible idea considering less than $4M isn’t a big investment if he doesn’t pan out. The extra ~$2M won’t kill them if he doesn’t improve

Decent gamble. We are in no hurry to win now, so it makes sense to pay him more now to save a bit in years 3-4.
Enough money and not to long to keep the player motivated.

Irrelevant…… Montreal already has 1/2 dozen bad contracts on the books…. What’s 1 more in the big picture.

I do not think this player is going to effect their goal to tank the upcoming season for a top draft pick!

Dont understand why pp are not ok with this, realy...
We gonna unload Drouin, Dadonov, Armia, Byron, Hoffman and possibly Monahan this season.
3.3 AAV for Dach, well done KH.
"Boat anchor on a rebulding team..." 21 years old center, former 3oa pick...

The post you are referring to said he wasn't a boat anchor on a rebuilding team.

Not sure what you're getting at.

I think its pretty expensive given his production to date.

I dont think the value or the term are high/long enough to really matter though. Montreal not likely to be in a cap crunch due to Price likely not playing much in the future.

And being major contributors to the revenue sharing...

Plenty of teams looking for a goal-scoring powerplay specialist will inquire after Hoffman; he's one-dimensional, but his production when healthy and skill-set render him attractive...

... next year when his contract is expiring and Habs retain 50% at the deadline.

As for Dach: just another 4th line player being paid around 3.5 million by the Habs. They do love their 3rd overall busts.

This take is so bad it deserves to be ridiculed.

Yeah, I'm sure the team that made the SCF decided to unnecessarily LTIR their captain and star goalie the following year.

Great logic McJedi.

Was not a big fan of the Dach trade in the first place.

Romanov had a development curve pointing upward, he had a clearer role and identity in the NHL.

But HuGo seem very confident about Dach, this contract being another proof of it.

Hoping they're right and I'm not.
