Proposal: MTL-BOS

Montreal gets kinda ripped off here IMO and I'm as far as you get from from a fan of theirs.

Rumor at last draft was Zegras and 2nd 2024 from 26th overall 2024 and Mailloux. No way they give a mid 1st and Mailloux for Zacha

I don’t think so. Romanov got traded for 13th overall, and he was barely an established top-4 D at the time (if he even was). Zacha is an established 2C in his prime, so ~16th overall + a decent prospect seems pretty reasonable.

Also, from MTL’s perspective, they’re only trading surplus, really. They have two 1st rounders this year, and Beck, while decent, is nowhere near their best prospect. He’s also been made pretty redundant anytime soon by the Evans signing. Mailloux has several guys ahead of him on the depth chart, and his style of game is now redundant to the Habs with Hutson’s emergence.

Zegras is a much worse player than Zacha - he can’t win faceoffs and is ass defensively. And he doesn’t even produce like a top-six player anymore. Would’ve actually been a terrible trade for MTL. Some fans might want to pay for a couple past 60 point seasons where he had no defensive responsibilities on a shit team, but I wouldn’t.

Zacha had a career high of 36 points before he was traded to Boston, also last I checked Zegras has 15 point in the last 20 games

Last I checked, Zacha has greatly improved since then, and Zegras has steadily regressed since he put up 60 points, nevermind that he was always terrible defensively and can’t win a faceoff to save his life.

Well yeah, Zacha went from from a team that finished with 63, 45, and 68 points in his last 3 seasons in Jersey to a cup contender where he has been permanently stapled to David Pastrnak. If Zegras were to get traded to a contender and stapled to someone like Nikita Kucherov or Artemi Panarin his production would skyrocket too

If Zegras were to get traded to a contender, he wouldn’t be playing C, not the way he plays now. He barely plays C in ANA from what I understand.

We are talking about filling the 2C slot in MTL; Zegras ain’t it. In MTL, he’d be on the 2nd or 3rd line as a winger.

I’m not interested in giving up any significant assets for a declining one-dimensional middle-six winger with injury concerns. No thanks.

Whether you want him or not is not relevant to our conversation. I haven't once argued whether he would play center or wing. You slandered him as a player while pumping up Zacha, I disputed that.

Look how much better Bennett got in Florida, or how Cozens is doing right now in Ottawa. Sometimes a player just needs a change of scenery. Zegras is very likely one of those players.

Slandered? Get off it dude. I didn’t say anything that isn’t well known to be true. Are you arguing that he’s good defensively or good at faceoffs? They are also on very different trajectories the last couple years; that is also true, so what exactly about what I said do you have a problem with?

And as for the bolded, maybe so, but I wouldn’t be willing to give up the assets required to take the gamble on it. We did that twice with Dach and Newhook.

We may not have to give up a major asset given that Verbeek is not keen on players like Z.

Hughes would not be doing his job if he doesn't kick the tires on Z. The change of scenery and his maturing may have a disproportionate effect and he becomes what many thought he could be. IF...a huge IF he takes that step forward and with his skill and vision meshing with what we think Demigod may be capable of...we could have off the charts duo. OR NOT.

I prefer to get McT but that is way, way out there in value that it would literally dig a hole in our team assets to acquire him.
