Well there you go. Expect to hear a follow up roster move by the Leafs with Liljegren headed down.

All because the idiots in charge insist on spending over half the cap on 4 forwards so everyone else has to play for scraps or get sent and aren’t even able to collect an NHL minimum salary.

“We can and we will” … ugh, makes me so sick in retrospect, saying it all cocksure with that stupid little grin and arrogance

It's not even the fact that we spent the money on 4 forwards. It's that we significantly overpaid for them.

Matthews is worth it, we paid more than our peers but look at his absence, no one on this team can score. He had leverage. Should have got him 11 X 8 or done it a year earlier, but whatever.

Nylander was also an overpayment at the time, but a fair deal now, so it's fine.

Marner and Tavares are NOT worth 22M. Tavares is playing like a 3.5M center, and Marner is playing like a league min winger. So right now they're about 18M overpaid. That's the real issue.

Hutchinson's career numbers are very respectable:
135GP, 2.78GAA, .906SV%

And last season he was great for us; 2.42GAA and .919SV%, Leafs fans just can't get over the 19/20 season where he did struggle but Babcock almost exclusively used him in game 2 of back to backs and the team completely gave up in front of him.

The problem with Hutch is he looks so awkward in net. Every routine shot is a scoring chance. Exactly how Mrazek looked last night, he was late on almost every shot and let out so many rebounds. It's not sustainable. Those are the kind of goalies that are great behind a good defense, to hide their flaws - but not actual NHL caliber goalies.

The Leafs D was great last season, hence Hutchinson's stats. We almost shut out Edmonton 3 games in a row.

Mrazek was fantastic in the second period. Poor on the third goal, the redirected ( or kicked) shot and the odd defection tragic, but not results of poor goaltending. They all count of course

I took so much heat for calling out the signing of an injury prone goalie to tandem with an injury prone goalie. As a fan sucks to have your concerns justified, and it pisses me off that our management continues to undervalue goaltending.

It is two games in. They are not in mid-season shape. Someone tweaking something this early isn't an indicator of anything.

He fared well for the Leafs in seasons where he played five and eight games. He played 15 games for the team in that aforementioned 19/20 season. The problem might very well have been in how Babcock utilized him. Perhaps though, trouble also occurs if he appears in too many games?

You do realize Chicago did basically the same thing when they were winning Cups right? They had to jettison players every year due to cap issues.

The issue isn't necessarily that they have that much money tied up in four players, the issue is the four players in whom that much money is tied up.

We need two factors for this to work. At the top, the Big 4 for the most part are punching at a Patrick Kane level. And we also need those Robertson type prospects to pan out a la Saad, Panarin, DeBrincat etc. (though Panarin and DeBrincat came after Chicago finished winning).

Mrazek and Campbell I guess would be more like looking for a Chris Osgood level goalie to win with.

My screen is a little dirty, Chicago had to jettison players due to cap issues when?

I'm not talking about just the goals that went in. There's tons more that could have went in if the D man didn't quickly grab his horrible rebound. Tons of shots right into his glove that he was late to so they flew out of his glove. You could look shaky and still save a lot if the defence is amazing. Look at David Ayres, people here only look at the end results and not the play between the goals.

Buf, Ladd, Leddy, Versteeg, Bolland, Campbell...a lot of key guys had to go over the course of their 3 cups to make it work.

09 after their first cup they traded big buff, Ladd and Vesteeg because of cap I believe. Also Saad, Bolland, Sharp, Shaw are some others that were cap casualties. Difference is they won 3 cup while losing them so definitely worth it. Sucks when we lose good players and haven’t even gotten out of the first round yet.

The key is after their first cup, the Leafs have had to do it before they have one a single round……..big difference

After winning their first cup and having to pay Toews/Kane.

Key part winning the cup. Our players got paid similar/more for accomplishing jack shit.

Ayres is not still playing. He was an Ebug a couple of years ago. Great story too! You only look at the end results? I don't. I hilighted the second period. I am still a person.

Yea, that what I thought it said.
Guess TBL had to lose some guys after their Cups as well.

Not quite apples to apples ;)

Mrazek is made of tissue paper, him getting injured so quickly wasn't shocking to me. Surprised he made it to the second period. Worthless signing.

Which goalie do you think played better. Forsberg or Mrazek?

It's crazy how the second best goalie in the game always plays great isn't it?

Mrazek was the third best goalie in the game yesterday with his .885 save percentage
