I look high and low, but Pollock reincarnated in Hughes I didn't find.

There are many sins one can commit as a GM but the one that even the devil never makes is to draft by need. BPA was, is and will always be the path.

Rein instead of Michkov is worse then Adam chomping at an apple....
That's a great analogy. Sounds like Hughes might be Adam reincarnated

Buffalo sucks with Power and Dahlin , no way Reinbacher is going to save us. Oh wait we have Barron and Matheson we are loaded in sure he will be in good hands.

We don't need RB to save us. We got loads of talent coming up. You've seen what Hutson can do. Next up is Demidov... Laine is looking like a great pickup.

We're in good shape man. Whether we missed out on Mich or not we've got good talent up front.

Romanov is a LD, not a RD. He prefers to play left and he is used that way by the Isles.

maybe Michkov decides to finish his whole contract in the KHL, too…...
We just don't know. Again, so far I have trust in Hughes and accept that there must be a good reason in not taking Michkov and taking Reinbacher instead.

I like our core group of kids as long as we continue to get bigger and meaner to mix in with that skill. Our blueline is going to let us down , but honestly I think we could fix that if we get a good Calgary draft pick this year. Move it for one of their stud prospects perhaps? You think Calgary would take their first rounder back for say...Zayne Parekh?

I don't think our blueline is going to let us down at all. Ghule and Hutson are already studs. We've got X and Struble as 3rd stringers on the left side. So that's covered really nicely.

RB should be able to slide in on the right just fine. Even if he doesn't live up to the pick, he should be a steady Eddie presence there with Hutson which is all we really need. Then you've got Mailloux and Baron on the way up. If we don't trust them we can leverage Matheson+++ for some help on the right. And honestly, that might not be a bad idea. We could keep one of those guys to learn on the 3rd pair and maybe deal the other away for some more experienced help.

We've got so much depth on the blueline coming up. Left side is pretty set. It's just the right we need to worry about. And as much as I've seen you complain about RB, his profile is that of a steady performer. That's exactly what we need.

So you're going to conflate games played as a first year 18 year old and use them to sell your narrative huh? To try and say with a straight face that how he played as a teenager in the NHL is representative of how to analyze him going forward and assess the potential is simply either purposefully disingenious or just plain stupid. And you guys can't see why your opinions and posts just can't be seriously considered by anyone approaching moderate. There are 5-6 posters on this site that lack any kind of patience at all, every little thing is just worthy of crying on the internet about. I mean look how fast someone in particular liked your post lmao.

That being said there are big concerns about Kirby, he looks like he's not even in great shape, of course even being patient the compete level isn't inspiring anyone. As has been said ad nauseum around here though, he deserves at least a half season to get back up to speed, he suffered a massive injury and that isn't gonna change because it's easy to mash words into your keyboard. Rational people aren't just going to give up on him and call for the GM and coaching staff to be fired though, that's for a very special contingent of internet karens to do. Obviously even on these boards, filled with hardcore fans, that contingent is a small minority. Thank god for that.
Dach fragile, he knows it, he's playing scared. Looks like he has lost confidence. Many under Marty has.

It absolutely sucks that Reinbacher lost an entire season. He'd likely have made the team at some point, and having him on the blueline would've been exactly what we needed. Of course there would've been growing pains, but he probably would've been an upgrade on Barron.

And yeah... it would take (some of) the sting out of watching our could've/should've pick on Philly.

I'm gonna ask r/conspiracy if they have any leaks

For real tho I think they just misread Michkov. They were intimidated by his personality and decided to go for the nice funny goofball in Reinbacher
At some point, we will hear the exact reasons.................and it could be that their staff swung and missed big time here. Michkov is talented, no doubt. We need DR to make the team next year, and start to prove them right or wrong??

The boys do value culture, and character from their draft choices.....stay tuned.
Demidov will make us forget Michkov if DR can't.

Not drafting Michkov is an all-time blunder.

It’s up there with any of the worst non-draft and personnel trades any previous GM has made in the last 50 years.

It’s the first, and a big first, blunder on Hughes resume as GM here.

If Michkov is a 90 point player or more it's absolutely deserved to be brought up a billion more times. Especially after the laughable takes on here about him to try and justify not picking him. I don't really give a shit about the other teams, I care about the Habs. You can't build an elite team by saying, "look, this team also sucks so it's okay".

We haven't had a star forward since Damphousse, forgive fans for being upset about passing up on this type of talent. Also let's not pretend that if he was having a poor rookie year the "where are the Michkovians" and other 1000 posts crapping on him wouldn't appear.
No other NHL team had both a Russian scouting director in their fold (co-director to be precise) and his close relative working in a senior role with the team that Michkov played for, at a time when most teams could not get live viewings of the player. I’m guessing this part stings for the average fan who keeps bringing up a lost opportunity. 💀

Just because the Habs had a Russian scouting director and a relative in a senior role of the team Michkov played for - does not prove their competence on the subject.

The Habs missed out on what would’ve been their best forward since Lafleur. And this isn’t hyperbole or hindsight, many of us were pounding the table on draft day for the concensus best forward in the draft after Bedard - and many argued at the time he may even be better than Bedard. Which may end up being the case after all.

Now we sit back and hope that Demidov can be as good and effective in the NHL. But that’s still not a consolation, it’s not OK to have missed Michkov because we got Demidov. Having Kaprizov AND Kucherov is better than having only one of them.
