Morgan Rielly

There isn't much you can do really. You ask where he might waive to, and if he says no... that's pretty much it. I would think it's probable that he might consider waiving to destinations of his choice, but you'd have to be pretty certain he'd do it, as you don't want the negative fallout either. A buyout isn't very attractive, as the signing bonuses don't get discounted, so it's a pretty big hit.

I guess it depends on your thinking... can we get a better player for that type of savings?

Season Savings Cap Hit
2025-26 $5,866,667 $1,633,333
2026-27 $3,866,667 $3,633,333
2027-28 $3,866,667 $3,633,333
2028-29 $3,866,667 $3,633,333
2029-30 $3,866,667 $3,633,333
2030-31 -$2,133,333 $2,133,333
2031-32 -$2,133,333 $2,133,333
2032-33 -$2,133,333 $2,133,333
2033-34 -$2,133,333 $2,133,333
2034-35 -$2,133,333 $2,133,333
Yeah I think a buyout is out of the question tbh

For this organization you’re probably right. For an organization that demands accountability and cares about winning championships it would be an easy decision.
I think the leafs don't want to hurt his feeling and the unknown but when MO has been out of the lineup we have looked better defensively.
Vegas Florida TB don't care about feelings the want a Cup.
Personally didn't want them to sign him to that contract .
So if we shit the bed in the playoffs or MO sucks trade him retain 2.5 mil we still won't get much for him but a change is needed for both.

Morgan was awful tonight. No hockey sense, no poise. Risky, ill timed pinches every game. Id imagine retaining 2 million on his contract would make him tradeable? Even at 5.5 I wouldnt want him on my squad.

Unplayable. How can a person fall off like this. Makes no sense. Put those 3 core players back in and Rielly would be wrecked last night.

They have .800 winning % without him in the lineup. As you said, they won’t get much in a trade for him and will have to retain $2-3M. A

They have a .800 winning percentage without him in the lineup. He can’t be on the roster next season if they want to win a cup.

Mo and the reason for his continuing turnaround, Brando.

+8 over the last six games, with three points. When you put the right type of player with Rielly, he becomes very useful. Carlo is the right type of player, and Carlo clearly enjoys playing with him.

Watch for this pairing to have an outstanding playoffs, and Rielly will shine again. Some people will still criticize him, because they are more interested in proving themselves as right, than changing their opinions, based upon changing information.

Do I ever hope you're right. We need him to be his absolute best to make it in the POs

Bottom line Rielly has slightly improved his paly with Carlo .. Carlo is covering up for him numerous times every game .. but we will see come playoffs against a Cats team I don't like Rielly on da ice .. against Tampa i think he can provide some value .. he still has zero defensive skills which make him difficult to pur on da ice when game is on da line .. Berube will tie him to da pines when game requires shutdown capability

Bingo.

Activating Rielly was always the best play. Hopefully we have done that with Carlo and his change in deployment and it carries into the playoffs because it's a requirement.

And if it does, we will do the same thing next year, bar some sort of extraordinary opportunity that presents itself.

Rielly was our best player against Florida in 2023. He was only on the ice for 1 goal against, and finished the series leading the team in scoring with 4 pts in 5 games and +3 which was highest on the team.

That was 2 years ago .. I am talking about last season and this season .. and especially about last years playoffs against Boston .. what a massive disappointment .. watch him skate past 2 years at Scotia like I do .. you can see da massive drop off in his speed .. it was has main differentiating factor .. i truly hope he can pull a rabbit out of da hat as it would be a great surprise and help to da team
