To be honest, I don’t see Rielly and Berube really meshing well and it’s very obvious in Rielly’s play and some of the words he’s used in the media. If he doesn’t straighten his game out with a defensive partner like Carlo, NMC aside, I think Rielly himself would welcome a change of scenery this off-season (unless we somehow win the cup lol).

I also don’t think the teams he’d waive to is limited to Vancouver and Seattle. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Detroit, New York, Utah and LA as possible options he’d waive to.

I look at a deal like Florida and Chicago made and understand Jones is a righty in which he could get a little more value but I think a 2nd round draft pick and a roster player is definitely fair value for Rielly.

Then make an aggressive pitch to sign Chychrun in free agency. Not only does he bring a shot from the blueline but he’ll also help add some younger legs on our blueline.

Man this is a hard one to separate personal feelings from on-ice play. I've been a massive Rielly fan since we picked him 5th overall, always believed in him and he has had a pretty great career so far, but this season he is a liability 5 on 5, despite being a more offensive orientated dman doesn't help our powerplay, and shouldn't kill penalties. It's a problem, and of course he has a NMC and adores being a Leaf.

Apparently getting married came with a labotomy and much lazyness and cheesecakes.

Reilly is finally being seen for what he is. He will be the reason the Leafs lose in the playoffs, he will have a -2 or -3 game a playoff series, possibly 2 of those in a series. He has never had hockey sense and now its really showing because his legs are declining due to age and being out of shape. Is that a guy u want to battle with? I find it inexplicable that he's the 4th heaviest position player behind Knies, Reaves, Hakanpaa at a whopping 225 lb but is 19th on the Leafs in hits at 21, and 27th in its per 60 at 0.92. I don't need him to be Scott Stevens, but why are you the heaviest regular defenseman and you don't even make incidental contact on a routine basis? He literally avoids the hard work. I also realize Tanev is low on the hits counter but no one will question his commitment to sacrifice.

I would strongly recommend they give him a full reset once Tanev returns. Give Benoit/Myers a few games and let Mo sit.

Bring him back after 3-5 games and then pick your poison.

I don’t see this as a good option at all. 3.6 million in dead space is significant and you’d still have to replace Rielly. With the cap growing as it is, even a quality 3rd pairing guy is going to cost you probably 3+ so you’ve really not gained anything.

I'm not talking a nanny but there has ro be at least one dependable family member on payroll who's doing the bum wiping and puke washing in exchange for a house or their debts being wiped.

Didn’t Rielly just have a son not even a year ago? We saw the effect that had on Tavares a few years back and for someone whose son just turned 1 I can definitely and confidently say it does take a toll on your body.

And not to mention, regardless of his play in the regular season, his play in the playoffs has been really good. Seems like he always goes into that next gear at that time.

I do think a change of scenery is needed for both sides though. I don’t think he’s happy under Berube’s system and I would love to go out and get Chychrun in free agency.

He needs be disciplined about his time with the kids and if his wife has postpartum or something they need to get help. There are options to make this work.

Pro athlete or not, no one should make their kid a second priority to anything in life. He is a dad, maybe it has affected his performance, but he is a dad first and foremost. Not everyone is selfish enough to pawn their kids off to be raised by a third party so they can focus on their career.

Whatever is happening to Mo' this season, he deserves the benefit of the doubt. He has been a good soldier his entire career here. 1 shit year and you guys are willing to throw him out the window.
