He had perhaps his best game of the season against Boston, a big contribution when Tanev went down.

He’s playing better recently which is great. His lack of defensive awareness and soft play in his own end still concerns me in a hotly contested playoff series. His tendencies are well known.

I believe since him and Berube had a sit down at the beginning of March about going back to his regular game style, Rielly is tied with EK for most points in the league from a defenseman, and is a +3.
It's a good thing we didn't 'buy him out' I suppose, that was a close one.

It's roughly a 75 point, plus 30 pace over 10 games since Chief stopped jamming him up - more than enough for top 10 in the league territory.
How much better do you think he needs to be to avoid being 'bought out' in the offseason so we can avoid a 21M cap hit?
I like the offense lately - but he's still avoiding much more work out there than he's engaging in willingly. That’s always the rub for Morgs.
He's still the unforced icing king, lol.... and his slow skates back to retrieve pucks - while he looks at his partner to go get it for him - are hilarious, if they weren't so sad.

Last night I honestly had a do a double take at some of the horrible decisions he was making on the ice.
There is no doubt Rielly's name is on the whitelist for Toronto Media - off limits for any clickbait articles, he's far too liked around the city for any non-positive articles to be written about him. As of now he is hands down the biggest problem on this team this year and somehow it's never even talked about.

Who else had this level of protection? I can't even think of a player that was this bad and the media ran cover for.
He needs to be lot better in his own end and he doesn’t have that in his game. A 10 game sample size against inferior competition where he gets a few points doesn’t impress me. Did you like his game last night against a cup contender because that’s what he’ll be facing every game in the playoffs ? Give me a buyout and $21M off the cap please. Sorry to hurt his and his fan clubs feelings but that’s Pro sports where winning is the only objective. Teams like Vegas, Tampa, Florida, Dallas and a few others wouldn’t hesitate to buy him out but the Leafs may not have the balls to make the hard decisions needed to build a real cup contender.
