Rantanen is a better player than Knies will become, so it's really about how much you worry about the 6-year age gap.

Also, the awkwardness of knowing Rantanen is here also likely means Mitch is gone in the summer and probably won't be best for team morale, either. But there's one thing he's got over all the Leaf players, and that's performing in the playoffs, so maybe it's worth it.

Knies won't be asking for 13-14M next year. His value is immeasurable to us right now imo.

The bruins are our direct divisional rivals, they would force treliving to overpay for their players. They would overcharge us and raise their price just to make it difficult for us to get them.

It already seems like it's one price for us, and another for other teams.

No, he won't, but Rantanen is a good option to replace some of what Marner does (point production) and some of what Knies does (power forward stuff), as you could hope to find.

But the real selling point is the playoff success he's had. He had more goals in one series vs. Seattle than Mitch has had in 5 years.

Keep in mind that scenario also means a playoff run with Rantanen AND Marner.
