Meh

I've said for years he's a 3rd pairing dman on a good team. He's just way too much money for doing nothing well.

His situation reminds me a bit of Dion Phaneuf, which is a number one defenseman in a "tough" situation, dearth of reliable partners over a long tenure, and the standards just slip over time without anyone noticing until they notice all of a sudden.

It wasn't ever easy to classify Dion, you'd look at his limitations and think this guy is just a second pairing guy? But the status, tenure, contract, it can trick you into thinking he's a number one.

Dunno what's wrong with Rielly but it looks like his head is just not in it.

The whole kid thing also is BS

He makes 7.5M...he can't fly in laws in? Get a nanny? You'd think his athlete wife would know he needs sleep/rest etc to perform.

Probably personal issues if not an undisclosed injury or ailment. Right?

Maybe family issues? Marital? I hate being all breakfast television and the like but the 2 goals last night were not just plays being in the wrong spot or a wrong read.

It was pure delayed process and then the slowest reaction, like he was stoned and forgot his role.

There’s the players help group. Sit out this season if you’re struggling. Give us the cap space meanwhile.
It would be interesting to know how the organization is looking at his situation. Publicly Berube is very supportive and that’s his nature but it’s not hard to read between the lines of his comments. Kypreos indicated that the team is very concerned about Rielly and if things don’t improve with him, something will be done in the off season. For me, if he doesn’t get his head in the game, they can’t rely on him in the playoffs. There’s way too much at stake.

I'm not a big Rielly fan anymore due to his lack of offense/speed which makes his brutal defensive play stand out even more .. but blaming him for last night is beyond ridiculous .. we had a house league tender in our net for god sakes .. this kid hildebeast .. common man he even looks off balance when standing in da net
Hildeby wasn’t good but on the third goal Rielly had the puck at his feet and was stumbling around like a drunk. There’s something seriously wrong with the guy. He’s not capable of defending right now and he plays defense. Huge issue for the team.

I would think a wife who was also an athlete would make sure he gets whatever rest he needs to perform.

Yes, you would think so, eh.

OTOH, I’m just not ready to concede that the reason he’s been worse this year, or in general, is that he’s become lazy and disinterested (not saying that’s your personal stance). He just doesn’t strike me as someone who has those sort of traits.
