I've said for years he's a 3rd pairing dman on a good team. He's just way too much money for doing nothing well.
His situation reminds me a bit of Dion Phaneuf, which is a number one defenseman in a "tough" situation, dearth of reliable partners over a long tenure, and the standards just slip over time without anyone noticing until they notice all of a sudden.
It wasn't ever easy to classify Dion, you'd look at his limitations and think this guy is just a second pairing guy? But the status, tenure, contract, it can trick you into thinking he's a number one.
Dunno what's wrong with Rielly but it looks like his head is just not in it.
