I just remember people thinking Sandin was going to replace Rielly. How about no. So when you have a replacement for Rielly then we could talk about moving him, but until then I would just have to keep him on.

Rielly was also trash on the first Bruins goal, scrambling around and puck watching on a fire drill around him. Same trashy defense all season long.

Was it really just Brodie covering for him all that time because I swear he used to be better. Lately Rielly looks like he has zero intuition about how hockey plays unfold.

He’s a liability defensively at this point and no where near the offensive threat to justify it. Which is too bad because I like him from what I know of him but..

I think it's honestly just his skating and agility and that effects him in all areas of his game. He used to actually be dynamic and could skate himself out of problems and catch guys.

We can start a list of the guys who were going to replace him:

Rasmus Sandin
Tyson Barrie
John Klingberg

Rielly had 58 points this season. Next highest guys on the team:
McCabe 28
Brodie 26

Do we want to replace Rielly now? Are we brining in more terrible D and then going to complain about not scoring next season too?

Rielly/Boosh was a positive this series... most other pairings weren't.

Yeah I think you’re right he just lost a tiny bit as he’s getting older and it affects his game so much because he relied on skating heavily.

Reilly scored because Vasi was just plain shit and couldn't stop a long floater with a screen in front of him. Playoff Reilly is not really a thing I guess.

The part that kills me with him is the Vapor Lock he has when its time to get the puck out fast. He has a lane to shoot but instead he holds on until some defenseman gets in there to block the shot....it's maddening. Also, he is the king of shooting from bad angles in the corner...has he ever scored from the corner?
One of the slowest decision makers, if not the slowest, on the team. Crazy and a large reason imo why the PP struggles.

He's always been a tunnel vision rushing defenseman and his brand of defense was basically all based on skating. You can tell he has no instinct to play the defensive side properly and he was raised in a terrible organization in his early years. Losing a bit of speed and agility seems to have completely wrecked his game.

Like we all agree, his offense doesn't justify the sloppy defense. He's sloppy and uncommitted. He's popular as a person but that has no bearing on whether he's fit to be a number 1, 2 or even 3 defenseman on a good club.

Playoff Rielly is dead

Rielly is as much of a #1 d-man here as Dion Phaneuf was, both horrible miscasts that ultimately management needs to shoulder the blame for. Can't expect players to be something they're not. Mo is a good dude, only one of the core who took a genuine discount to remain a Leaf, but with all that said this a business and his term scares me. Need to aim higher, I'd try to get out of his contract before it becomes unmovable.

He's like Woll, you hang on to him, at the same time as you go gangbusters looking for a suitable replacement. One that can shoot maybe this time.
His 5-game suspension was probably the best 5-game stretch we played all season.

He was on for a bad play and fans only remember the last thing they seen. Not surprised people are turning on Mo.

HE WAS DA BAD PLAY .. HUGE DIFFERENCE .. EITHER LACKING HOCKY IQ OR COMPETE .. EITHER WAY HE IS DONE HERE

No he's not. Straight up.

He had an ok series despite playing injured. He has been lights out at least 3 series in a row before this. Y'all are lost and emotional right now.

I am probably too emotional about this right now for sure as he did play like captain Morgan last playoffs BUT this playoffs he and Lily were killing us .. i know da bruins target those 2 guys but they are doing it for a reason as they see da liability .. we cant afford da liability .. other big issue is his speed is leaving him and we are in for much worse years ahead .. i think now it da time

We gave up 4 goals in the last 3 games. Liability is pushing it to extremes that are not accurate.

I won't hold you being emotional after a loss against you. Just saying I think you aren't thinking as clear on this.

And where's the offense from the defense that we're paying 7M for? Not even on the pp, can't gain the zone, zero shot threat. He fills a role we don't have elsewhere but we need somebody who does it better.

karlsson(11.5), jones(9.5), werenski(9.5), doughty(11), nurse(9.25), chabot(8), carlson(8).

i wouldnt take any of these guys over rielly factoring in salary
You said worse players with more expensive contracts.

Karlsson, werenski and Doughty aren't worse than Rielly. You've got four there at the most. And even if all seven of them are worse.... Congrats, Rielly is only the 8th worst defensemen contract in the league. We're supposed to be happy about that?

Guy plays the offensive game on the PP in a daydream and doesn't break a sweat on the season finale in OT. For all the Captain Morgan talk, he's got the country club disease as much as anyone. Job security and NMC till 2030.
