Who is his defence partnerDude is like 25. Clearly lost a step. Washed up. Time to move on.
/S
Are you sure he's aiming for the top corner?I swear if someone just told him to take shots at the lower half of the net he'd be a superstar. He aims for top corner EVERY time and misses and rings it off the glass.
how is there no thread on this guy? Best dman last year, terrible every game this year. Hurt? Ive never seen anything like it. WTH?

This guy gets the biggest free ride here out of anyone on the team. People were ready to trade Auston ****ing Matthews for being porous defensively(an aspect of his game he's become excellent at now as a forward at the age of 22), Rielly plays the position and sucks defensively and catches the least flack. I do give him a break for being injured but he's always been flawed.
Similarly, John Tavares was underwhelming for the vast majority of the season and that was okay because he just had a kid...WHAT?
To top all of this off whenever posters criticize the team in broad strokes its always the "lazy greedy young kids" which is total BS because Matthews was phenomenal, Nylander was very good and Marner, who's game I didn't much care for, was still pacing about 100 points. If people are honest with themselves Rielly going from a Norris candidate(which was never going to be the norm) to an absolute stiff was the biggest non-Babcock issue this year. Followed by Tavares not playing like the elite superstar he's paid to be.
Posters here hate pinning the goat horns on veteran Canadian players tho, hence the lack of thread.
He looked the part of a player his way through games. Everyone was saying he must be injured. We were all right. It effected every part of his game. Great thing is it didn’t effect him mentally as shown by his great transition smartness. Physically, he was half the player. Just depended on how uncomfortable he was from game to game is my guess as to why all the fluctuations were there in his quality of play. We still don’t know exactly what injuries he was dealing with. They must have been manageable but he was not himself for sure bro. Stay healthy leaferThat's a surprising read but at the end of the day it acknowledges Rielly's struggles without the puck. I see it's a category Karlsson usually dominates as well who was routinely shredded for his defensive ability despite much better production. It was overall an ugly year for Rielly to pretend otherwise is a disservice to the player he can be. Zone exits are important obviously but that's not the be all end all of evaluation.
Rielly is a very good player. A #1 dman. But not the top 10 in the league all world talent he is treated and he has holes defensively which he rarely gets as much abuse for as our forwards.
Wait. We wanted to trade Auston Matthews?
I think trading one of the 'Big M's' is needed to get some depth on the squad as it frees up salary cap space or you get 3 players for the price of one.
I knew signing the trio of Tavs, Marner and Matty was a mistake. Although, they may have just tuned out the coach and will go St.Louis blues on the league once he is gone.
Obviously. As good as matthews is this year hes no mcdavid/draisaitl/MacKinnon and cant carry a team nearly all by himself.
And marner is amazing but he right now is not as good as Matthews let alone the level above. I'd trade both for the Bruins 1st line
one of AM/MM/WN have to go, I didn't include JT because I'm sure he's got a no movement clause.
I'd trade Matthews and Nylander for Matthew Tkachuk and Noah Hanifin. I doubt that Calgary even considers this.
Ottawa can have Marner for Brady Tkachuk and Anders Nilsson.
Flame away.
Both have put themselves ahead of the team, IMHO. Their contracts screams greed when neither have proven anything teamwise.
Was actually thinking the same thing today.
A trade revolving around matthews for seth Jones would make us a more balanced team.
If pressured, I trade the guy that the leafs have shown that they can win most without
Matthews proved its more about the money then winning. He signed, imo, the most player friendly deal in the league while giving nothing back to the team.
We have JT to be our #1 center for the next half decade+.
Also the market for an 11 mil winger is probably not going to he very big.
I'd trade auston unless some team is willing to overpay for marner
wow, a little late to the party aren't we? I stand by my opinion, Leafs are in need of more balance and if one of AM/MM/WN has to go to obtain said balance so be it. For your opinion be relevant responding in a timely fashion might strengthen your case, until then.........have a nice month or three...............This board in a nutshell, asinine take after asinine take and then we pretend they never occurred...
Unbelievable the amount of gaslighting that goes on here. This is taken from the first two pages of 17 page thread from earlier this year, there's another from 2018 I didn't touch.

I get where you are coming from on your analysis but I am totally not at all concerned about Dermy playing da right side. I know he can.I'd trade Morgan, and it's not because I don't like him, or because he's gone down hill. He is who is, an excellent puck moving and offensive D man, who isn't great defensively. The reason I'd move him, is we'd still have a left side of Muzzin, Dermott and Sandin... I'd only move him, for a quality RHD, who could play first pairing... like a Parayko for example... I love Mo, thought he should have been the captain, but if we can improve our overall team.... I'd do it.

You'd take Dermott over Rielly on a steal of a contract for the next 3 years? Dermott and Johnsson package could help improve our team just as much and are much easier to replace on our team.
You think Dermott + Johnsson = Rielly?
Or near a Rielly level RHD?
