The only reason I see him not playing for the Marlies is if it takes a year off his contract. Anyone know how that rule works? I know (in a full) NHL season if a player on the first year of their ELC who still has junior eligibility plays 10 games then the contract starts and the first year is burned off. Maybe he'll get 9 games? Also do playoffs count towards that number? And of course a junior player CAN'T play in the AHL unless their junior season is over. Maybe playing 10 games in the AHL doesn't matter?
The rule could be different though because it is at the end of the season where he already played his full junior campaign.
Interesting nonetheless, Rielly on the Marlies would be good for his development! Maybe he gets the call to the show and is the Conn Smythe winner for the cup winning Leafs! You know where we SWEEP the lowly hawks.
