Sigh. We're jumping back on the "Dubas didn't fix the defence" narrative once our two best dmen go down? Unsurprising but still disappointing. I agree Barrie was a misfire and I hate him with Rielly, though if Rielly is as good as people think you can't blame him splaying poorly all year on his D partners. Don't know about you but I'm sure as hell glad Dubas got us Muzzin, who will be back soon, all we need is to ride out a couple games without him and then hope that our World Junior MVP Dman can step in serviceably and we'll be fine.

Dubas acquired two top 4 dmen and didn't trade Nylander for a #4 like so many of the hf brain trust wanted, I'm so sick of this crap. One of them was a poor fit and Rielly went from a Norris candidate to sucking all year, what can you do? Dubas has done a fine job considering where he started.

Lastly, this team is making the playoffs. No question.
Dubas decided to let Hainsey walk. Many of us called Reily missing him dearly. He loves fixing things that aren't broken for youth. And it blows up in our face every time. McBackup same thing.

If we're out at the deadline sell Barrie and Muzz

Do you really believe this team is going to be out by the deadline? Wow. We are talking about Reilly here that hasn't played any good all season. If anything bringing in a more defensive minded dman like Gravel or Harpor may stabilize the D defensively. Reilly has been horrible all season.

On Saturday I heard Elliotte Friedman say the Leafs might be interested in Brendan Dillion if the Sharks were to trade their pending UFA's and that was before Rielly got injured last night.

That may work, but that may still be too costly given the situation.

I'm think looking at another teams 7th or 8th defenceman and giving them a chance with the cost being like Petan and a mid/late pick, maybe Timashov at a push. Something to get to the deadline then see where you're at.

Although this news is brutal, if he did have a previous injury, the rest will help.

Hopefully Dubas doesn't have a knee jerk reaction and trade valuable assets for a D. One trade won't turn us into a cup contender.

At least our pick is lottery protected if things go way south.
The problem if things go south and Toronto happens to keep their 1st round pick if it's in the top 10, than Carolina automatically gets in 2021 with no conditions.

I got some land in the Everglades in Florida that I would sell you. Muzz is still in crutches with a cast on. Even if he starts skating after the all star break he is still 2-3 weeks after that to get back in. We should be firmly out of playoffs by then. and our rookie's will get blasted in their confidence in next month too. We are going to eat our own now.

Oh crap!

That part I did not know. Patty really left a nice parting gift for us.

The McBacup decision made sense. It turned out poorly, this happens sometimes. McBackup has 1 more win than Hutch this year, get over it. I would've liked retaining Hainsey but if Rielly requires him to play well that's his problem. By the way, this situation would still be quite dire if Hainsey was here. The people who blame Dubas love to pile on about moving on from middling players like they were stars, remember earlier this year when Babcock couldn't get wins because of Dubas' horrible roster construction? Citing the losses of Komarov and Brown.

I think the Leafs should go for a home run. Make a trade with New Jersey right away. Their GM is ripe for the picking.

Trade them Lily, Johnsson and Bracco for Vatanen and Simmonds

I highly doubt that.

Well that's straight up awful for us. Have to laugh that the guy crucifying Dubas for failing to address this D liked this post. If this is addressing the D than I'm thrilled he didn't.

Yes, AHL stalwarts Gravel and Harpor will make this team better

Have seen Vatanen about 10 times this season. NJ best defender, playing really good season.
Simmonds been Ok.
But Vatanen has quite high value now. Also he tends to elevate his game post season.
