When Geekie was in Seattle they did these team competitions and his shot was clocked in at 104-105mph regularly... that shot there was Chara or Weber-esque.
His crazy shooting percentage will regress to the mean (to an extent) in time, but it's worth keeping in mind that he scored 3 goals on his first 3 shots in Carolina. The kid has an elite shot and shot release, to go with a keen nose for open areas. And he's close friends with our newfound elite playmaker #88.
Sweeney absolutely cannot afford to let a key piece on his top line next year walk this offseason. The chemistry between #39 and #88 is special, it's clearly no fluke at this point. To call the emergence of this chemistry, and of Geekie as a consistent scoring threat, a silver lining in this awful season would be a monumental understatement.
Right now the initial Geekie signing is looking like Sweeney's best, most prescient move as Bruins GM. Holy cow did Seattle make a mistake letting him walk without a QO!! Cheers!
P.S. - the excitement over this development was enough to take me out of HF retirement. In case anybody cares, LOL
