Player Discussion Morgan Geekie

I was thinking Belesky as well lol - Geekie & ‘Dave’ Pastrnak go together well like Jim Morrison & Ray Manzerak or for the mid to late 70’s folks Ronnie Van Zant & Allen Collins of Lynyrd Skynyrd. A super star matched up with a guy who they had chemistry with

Skynyrd was about to become one of the all time greatest bands adding Steve Gaines was like Warriors adding Durant

Like Springsteen and his Van Zant.

I think it'll be a bridge with a number higher than most like. But the term will be short enough to make it acceptable.
I think that's the easiest to swallow on both sides. I like Geekie, I think he can keep this up...but I'm also very weary about signing him longer term for one great season.

It's undeniable that he has chemistry with Pasta though, and that is valuable to us.

Lot of discussion about his high shooting % is it sustainable?

Probably not 20 % but if he’s playing with Pastrnak it’s going to be high as we saw his goal last night. Thats 30 in 60 games since Monty left and inserted back into the lineup

I’m team Geekie but grateful he directly led to Chicago third and crushing goal with a ‘what the heck was that’ on his pass (snicker) back to Callahan

Um, yeh no Geeks

Glad Brickley brought it up

Could easily see Pasta worn out before the playoffs start if has to do all the heavy lifting on his line all season being paired with Geekie.

I think back to when Haula clicked with Hall and Pastrnak in the regular season. A lot of people said he was a fine 2C and I was wrong for thinking he's not going to cut it when the playoffs roll around.

He gets matched up against Aho and is eaten alive.

I worry the same would happen to Geekie if he gets paid like hes a true 30 goal guy and then needs to play against the other teams best defensive players in a 7 game series.

Fair point, but I'd say there's a big difference between a center playing above his skill level vs a winger. And hopefully they have a legit top 6c at some point to play in between these two to take some pressure off Pasta

Very possible, but if the Bruins don’t add anyone of significant during the off season, well like Jim Mora said. “Playoffs”

Well that's life given they have no one on the opposite wing for #88.

Anyway #39 has played 26 PO games the last two years. That's been series against the following teams

2023 Colorado and Dallas (Playing no better than 4th line minutes scoring 2G 14% SP)

2024 Toronto and Florida. (Playing top six minutes scoring 4G in 13G 21% SP

Scored at least 31G this year at a 21% SP.

So 13 Playoff games he shot at 21% and shot at 21% over 75 RS games.

You can't really make a definitive statement on him getting destroyed based on his numbers.

I think it reasonable to think playing with #88 he can achieve a 16-17% SP and that's assuming #88 is healthy all year which he clearly wasn't the first 1\3 of of the year.

I'm in the camp of finding a left winger for the top line and letting Geekie get 200 shots and seeing if he can attain a normal, non Pasta driven 13 percent ( which would still be 25-26 goals ) as the shooter on the 2nd line.

At the end of the day, goals are goals and they could just as well find another 20 goal scorer on the market for the 2nd line and continue to let Geekie's goal totals get fat on Pasta dishes. I'd prefer to balance things out though, as Geekie is showing that he's the 2nd best goal scoring option on the team.

I saw he missed like ~20 games, but from 69 to 30 goals is a pretty long drop for missing 1/4 of the season.

There is more to it than injury I am sure, but I think he was playing hurt for a while too before they shut him down. I could be wrong as I don't follow the :eafs that closely, but either way you are right, a 40 goal drop is massive.
