I think the argument that culture or having a good room is “overrated” is kind of missing the point. Probably it’s just fatigue from hearing it over and over again and beaten into our brains ad nauseam.

Going to work (even if it is a sport) with a hunch of dickheads in a toxic workplace is not much fun. No matter how good and skilled you are, it’s going to spill over into results sooner than later.

I can buy that having a good room is one part of the equation. Seems as though Frost and Farabee fell into that category. The problem becomes when you are willingly and blindly overlooking ways to improve the team by pointing to a largely unquantifiable thing, as excusing inaction. Or.. by being a complete idiot in eliminating something that you feel is contributing to a toxic culture and underselling that asset or airing dirty laundry. The Flyers organization seems completely inept in navigating this and consistently makes the wrong choice, almost every time.

They can have skilled players that are also good teammates. But they seem stuck in the mindset that only try hard 4th line role players are contributing to having the right culture.
Maybe they should find good locker room guys who are also skilled guys then. Instead of you know, the Johnsons, Seelers, Hathways, Pelletiers, Deslauriers, and the like

Edit:re-read your post and I basically just copied your last little bit there. My B. Carry on

Edit edit:last time they had good teams though you could call it a tumultuous room. Mike richards Jeff Carter dry island. Allegations of dudes sleeping with other dudes wives. I guess Pronger was a stabilizing force once he got here, but yea he was a #1D even at that age. The giroux era teams were up and down but I don't think anyone complained about the room then. Makes me wonder exactly what culture it is the Flyers are looking for.

I think the issue here is the people in charge are a bunch of dickheads who make it a toxic workplace and they think this is "culture".

There is some value in having a good locker room, but unfortunately as you said the Flyers overvalue it to the point it becomes a detriment to the way they build a roster.

Not to mention they think a "good locker room" is one where a complete asshole coach like Torts is the one in charge, which is the complete opposite of building a "fun" atmosphere.

The Giroux led teams were objectively dogshit once they lost pronger for so long but that top line still dragged them to the playoffs every other year because they were that good. Now we have no talent and are playing archaic systems with a tyrant that runs our players into the ground. not like the flyers fo hasn't always been a toxic cesspool of shit running players out of town. the flyers culture is horrible. culture of ego with no results to show for it. loser culture. no one loses more than the flyers. "everyone wanted to play for philly" yea because theyd pay big bucks in free agency to players when there was no salary cap and they could buy their way to a stanley cup LOSS every couple of years. Loser franchise. clean it out. haven't won anything meaningful since they beat the Russian National Team 50 years ago.

Giroux absolutely could have led the flyers to at LEAST the conference finals but they murdered the team all to protect the egos of the front office. Michkov will be the next victim of the orange and black.

I think you missed the point. You actually explained why culture and a good room are overrated. The Flyers reportedly have a "good room" but they're a lousy team. So in that context what good is it? Build a talented team with the right mix of players and a winning culture will develop. Winning build culture. Leaders will develop from that. You can't build a winning culture without actually being able to win. It's cart before the horse. The Flyers think they can build a culture and that's the key. It isn't. All of this talk of culture and a good room is just talking points from a flawed organization. Attempting to sell invisible products to their gullible fan base

Go read my post again.

Your comprehension seems a little lacking.

And even beating the Russian team back then was tainted because of good ol’ Clarkie. The more I think about it, f*** that guy.

theres lower lows to go
I mean barely. The Flyers have made the playoffs only 4 times in 13 years at the end of this season. They have finished in the top half of their division 3 times in those 13 seasons.

And in one of those playoff series they got their doors blown off by their instate rival so badly that the fans publically embarrassed themselves on a night that was supposed to be honoring their beloved, dead, ex-owner.
