Bennett/Ekblad combo, giving up a 1rst for negotiating rights will be the Hartnell/Timonen style deal that brings them to the edge of contention

There’s probably too much risk involved with McTavish. He’s definitely in a dumpster fire situation in Anaheim where basically all of their young players are struggling. But at the same time I’m not sure there’s really much indicating underlying that he’s gonna turn into some first line/star caliber player.

Vilardi is more proven & a good player but I think he’s basically a secondary player at this point. It’s improvement for the Flyers but given he’s already 25 & making over $6M on his current contract. I don’t think that really fits the Flyers what the Flyers should be after.

If the Flyers had a team ready to contend now for a Cup & needed to bolster their secondary part of the lineup I think Vilardi would make more sense in that context.
The Flyers are going to get Zegras, as they are building the future on York, Drysdale and their other running mate.

The next star that leads the Flyers to a Cup Final hasn’t been born yet.
The likelihood that this is true is very depressing.

For the life of me, I don't understand why they just straight out announce their strategy ahead of time like this.
If you hadn’t noticed… Briere is kind of a dimwit. I’m pretty sure Fletcher was a more intelligent guy. And they are the same level of cucked. To me, he’s already been worse in many ways.

Big game hunting will either mean shipping out all our picks for a 2C or re-signing Cates to a 6x9 million deal.

TSN calling Kuz a 2 monther. Team will take months before it sours on him

Gonna have to finish his way out of a potential doghouse situation.

He’s got insane highs & lows with shooting percentages so far in his career. His rookie season he shot a staggering 27.3% over the course of a full season.

Ha I was just about to say this. I would love to have Hughes but I doubt he would leave his brother. Bouchard does have the London connection though!

Unless you meant Dobson as the other one.

Ok, what if the 3 best are Defensemen?

I sorted by Points, so I didn't scroll far enough to see Hughes. I'm definitely including Dobson. Huge fan.

God almighty, if we had to reiterate our preferred hires in every thread just so you don't miss the long-established context, you'd start complaining that there was no discussion, just a repeated list of grievances and unworkable "solutions" because the team would never go for it.

That said, to humor you, I've been here since the late Homer era. I wanted Hexy when he got hired, more fool me, wanted Zito when we hired Chuckles, wanted Tulsky when we hired Brière. Also wanted Tulsky over Jones, since they seemed locked in on DB. It's been a while since we hired a coach I like, but I've been largely in favor of new names, wouldn't mind giving some of the top assistants or Euro coaches a look-in, but I also favored Gallant at a couple points when he was free. Mostly want us to hire someone from a well-run org like Tampa, someone along the lines of Jeff Halpern might be interesting. Recently, the name David Carle has come up, and that'd be a great direction to go. I would happily replace Rocky with a rock, but I also don't know who's available to replace a PP coach, nor should I really have to, I'm just some rando on a message board.

Ultimately, the solution is to blow up the Foundation the Titans are holding up, and hire people who understand that the modern NHL is predicated on finding and maximizing talent, not finding and maximizing grit. People who can contemplate analytics without getting halfway through the word and giggling for so long they forget what they were doing. People who want to win the 2027 Stanley Cup, not the 1976 Stanley Cup. We keep going round in circles like this because the team never, ever tries anything that is likely to work, so we never get any reason to hope. Want a more positive discussion in here? That'll require some positive moves from the team, and they don't seem capable of providing that.
What's so great about Tulsky?

Now on the grit question, I hate to bring up the Sabres again but go check out twitter #Sabres right now or any of their forums. That's talent over grit, and they be in last place.

we still have far more grit than talent..we have what..2 guys i would call are super talented and one of those two are getting any talent he has ground out of him by the coach

Talent is the more difficult thing to get, by far. You can move talent for grit. It’s an impossibility to do the opposite.
