According to team sources the Flyers wanted to get out from behind Farabee's contract. He was in the third year of a six-year, $30 million contract with an AAV of $5 million. BY swapping that for Kuzmenko's shorter deal, the Flyers bought themselves $5 million in cap space in each of the next two seasons.

Flyers put this talking point out to their minions. Once again, ASF and DiMarco talk about the same thing right around the same time (18 months to be contenders the other day).

Flyers media getting ready to put on a brave face and hype up this trade

Everyone that covers this team has microwaved their organs. They have only themselves to blame. No matter how hard it is, it point to horrendous process.
3 years left at $5M probably deep sixed his trade value, but there was no reason to bum rush Farabee out the door, because unless they think Barkey is going to step right into the NHL, who were they planning to replace him with in 2025-26?

Now Abols could probably be decent at LW (big, smart, average speed, more physical and probably can be as bad on offense) and Lycksell deserves a shot, and Richard is replacement level, but still. Pelletier is unproven.

I don't mind trading Frost, but if Farabee balances out Kuchmenko (both teams dumping players), Frost for Pelletier and a 2nd is both meh and doesn't fit the Flyers' needs. Should have gone after 1st rd picks/prospects like Honzek or Henry B.

I understand why they moved the pair, they're soft, they've gotten a lot of chances to win top six jobs and both flatlined, and there's little upside left. Middle six forwards with no special attributes that weren't core players going forward. But jeez, get a better return than a 2nd rd pick and undersized 3LW.

I will state this over and over because I have to remind myself.
until Clarke, Torts, Barber, Homer, Briere, Jones and every ex flyer is gone this organization is doomed to pick 9-13 mediocre slop.

I get if you had hope after the Provy and Walker trades. But I restate. Until this entire organization gets an enema they are doomed to pick 9-14 over and over and over.
