Player Discussion: Morgan Barron

I compared his scoring with Copp at every level. Barron has higher points per game in college and in the AHL at the same years of their development.

I think it's why chevy targeted him
Him winning fastest skater at the skills comp was a bit of a eye opener for me. Maybe he does have the ability to get close to the level Copp was in the similar role.

Copp didn't seem like much, but as he grew more and more mature he got more and more effective. Hoping for the same thing from Barron.

I think that any time you can have a 6'4 Swiss army knife who can skate, has OK hands, and can play centre in a pinch, you're doing OK

Blake still lives in the heads of many posters here:DD
and the All time American players points list.

currently # 15 all time USA points.
he’ll be a top 50 American born player in points for the next couple decades. did his best work here. His failings were Maurices inability to handle him properly and chevy’s failure to move either or both sooner.

I think the difference is that he’s starting to finally take a few chances offensively. I’m sure in previous years he was told to be very responsible and keep the puck away from the other team. Just don’t get scored on. Maybe similar to Morrissey when he was finally told that he could unleash the other part of his game. Let me just say that I’m not comparing the levels of Morgan Barron and Josh Morrissey.
However, if Barron has finally proven his chops defensively, maybe he’s been given the green light to take a few more chances in his game to add offence.
There’s been a notable difference lately.

The kid never makes a mistake. It's crazy. he almost never turns the puck over, finds outlets, or bangs it off the boards and out, he gets his dump-ins deep and onside, wins battles all over the ice and on the boards is a beast on the forecheck and the backcheck and is utterly reliable IMHO.

I also think he's more of a playmaker than a shooter...and he's been mostly played as a checking forward with some real stone hands linemates...
All year long I've watched him set up guys like Iafallo and Kupari only to watch them fumble the shot . Knowing that if he had a shooter on his line those would probably end up in the twine....
I hope him and Gus can finally help each other put some points up.

Good posts above.

I'm a Barron fan. Never takes a shift off and brings a blend of speed, size and intensity to the line that's a big part of what makes them tough to play against. Has a nice wrister also, tho agree that he's often making a play only to have to pick up the puck again as it's cycled back into a corner or shotput a mile past the net.

Many here have wondered if he had to bring offensively -- maybe he can get a longer look with and Ehlers/ Names / AN Other line. Seems like he'd have the speed and hands to be a reliable digger and sometime shooter on such a line.

I would like to see him on his off wing with KC and Schief. As I believe he has a bigger body than Iafallo, while being good defensively and in the corners.

Unfortunately Barron seems to suffer from the same issue as all of our promising bottom 6 players, they can't bear down on their chances. He had a fabulous game against the Avs and I hope that continues.

Which makes perfetti a bottom 6 player.

Barron continues to impress me.

His scoring is coming on . Yes his points totals are low...but I think a lot of it is linemates...if he had some proper finishers on his line he'd be scoring more assists and it would open him up for more goals....

But the kid is incredible. he doesn't make mistakes. he's playing great at C, he wins faceoffs, he fore and back checks like his mothers' life depends on it, and whatever you "need" he does it.

Struggling in the D-zone? Barron gets it off the glass and out. Need a dump&chase shift? Barron gets it deep or chases down the puck and wins the battle....

I love this kid and think he's going to breakout in offence soon.
he looks like Wheeler and Scheifele made a baby together but somehow he plays like Lowry and Tanev made a baby.

He definitely has a good combination of size, speed, and attention to detail that makes him - at the very worst - a reliable bottom six guy

He also has more offensive upside than Kupari and Gus (IMO) when it comes to 4th line centre options

I'm really digging this 4th line

I see the same things, and I would describe Kupari the same way. You couldn't wish for better fourth line players, with potential to move up.

Barron has really impressed me, especially considering how effective he's been playing C. I hope he's following a similar trajectory as Mason Marchmont, another big fast F that didn't really make his mark in the NHL until about age 26, which is similar to Barron's career stage this season.

If Barron can develop into a strong C he's going to be a valuable cog going forward.
