To Calgary: Kessel, one of Goligoski/Hjalmarsson/Demers (50% retained)

To Arizona: 2021 3rd, Pelletier, Bennett, Lucic

Calgary's window is now, so they add an offensive RW, a veteran RD, while also dumping Lucic's contract

Arizona get a talented young LW to be part of their long term core, a reclamation project with upside in Bennett, plus a 3rd rd pick in this year's draft

Which Dman should Calgary receive to balance out the value?

Awful asset management for the Flames moving their best prospect for 33 year old Kessel. No way.

The Flames take on more cap in these deals. Do you really think Kessel at 6.8 is a great deal?

Lucic is overpaid but plays a role.

I never said Kessel was a great deal...

But, I would rather have Kessel for the next 2 years at 6.8, than have Lucic for the next 3 years at 5.25

No problem giving up what Arizona is giving up in the deal, however don’t want anything to do with Lucic’s contract.

We have a lot of money coming off the books at years end which will open up the wallet for the GM.

Arizona is going to have close to 30 million coming off their books this summer, what exactly do you hope they accomplish with that cap space that can't be done if Kessel is swapped for Lucic?

It's not terrible because I like Bennett. Pelletier is a fine prospect, but the Coyotes' top-six is already incredibly light in the pants. Kessel actually looks like a top-six forward this season. I don't see why AZ would do this.

Because the Coyotes are 2nd last in their division, aren't contenders, and should be building towards the future

What can be done? Not spend to the cap and have flexibility to see what shakes out on other strapped teams that can’t afford their players. See what they can get for vulnerable teams in the expansion draft and not waste 5.25m on Milan Lucic. That’s what they can do.

Are they going to flip Pelletier for something they need more and draft a franchise changing forward in the third round?

Just because you made the offer and like it, doesn’t mean everyone else will. It’s not a horrible offer, but we have absolutely zero need for Lucic. How does Lucic help for rebuilding for the future? He’s a liability. We would be paying him to sit.

They both have trade protection that neither player is likely to waive for this deal so what's the point?

other than the very specific 2016-21 sample, in every sample of any year 2008/09/10/etc-21 lucic has higher value above replacement level than kessel.

Kessel threads should be autolocked

Pens fans are happy to explain how he forced his way to Arizona

He has his cup rings, he isn’t waiving for a city with worse golf courses

Lol. Good point. Phoenix is where retired Calgarians go to vacation and play golf in the winter. Can't see Kessel going the opposite way.
