I wouldn't be giving up significant assets for Kessel at this point.

There's more to the trade than just a "significant asset" for Kessell

Calgary is also dumping Lucic's contract...

I wouldn't retain on Kessel AND take Lucic at full pop for three years. I'd consider Demers at 50%, which would still net the Flames a bit of cap savings in the deal.

Well its more so needed in the deal or the Flames can't even think about it.

Seems odd that you can't think about a deal that gets rid of Lucic and lowers your total cap commitment each of the next three years, but to each their own.

As noted, it's all probably moot anyway with the NMC's involved.

And then they'd be looking to dump Kessel's contract. Both guys are washed up, more or less.

EDIT: he's a UFA in the offseason of '22, so maybe they let the contract play out. He can still pot some goals, but he's longer the game breaker that his price tag suggests.
