Why’s Kadri writing a book while he’s still in the league?
Wants to be the first to get the inside leaf drama on paper?

*haven’t read the book. Not sure if this is a chapter of a pretty big chunk of it

It was because modano and the training staff were talking about the 1500th game and it being something modano wanted. Babcock was said to say you were brought here for a stanley cup not 1500 games.
Well if he said that, can't really say it was wrong. Though me in his position would still have played him. Though him might thought, okay guy is coasting, scratch him piss him off and see if that goes into better playoffs play and a true urge to win.

I was hoping he would learn from his mistakes, but he never did. He's a low life, and a control freak.

Might of been a good thought if he didn't scratch him there also.

How many guys can make it to the NHL while being lazy in the gym? If there were some, why would they need to be ripped by trainers?

- Wouldn’t their on-ice performance be the primary indicator of laziness?
Not lazy compared to normal people, but I’m sure the workouts to be NHL caliber are way more severe

Even on that level, you hear players say and and so is a freak in the gym. So there’s probably a range relative in that level.

I’m sure there are some guys who can get by on “moderate” gym effort but tons of skill and IQ

It’s all been out there and I also question why a guy is worried about a book while still playing
He likely just provided notes and someone else wrote it.

Maybe easier to make more money on a book the more relevant you are, still playing as opposed to retired.

Also, this is something you address in private with the individual if the training isn't meeting expectations.

Trying to embarrass them and the trainers infront of everyone just creates unneeded tension.

I don't see why the two things are mutually exclusive.

This isn't more shenanigans. These two things about Mitch and the trainers were already known.

All of this is old stuff. He did things how he saw them or learned them while himself was younger.
Worst thing he did was bully some people and mind games to get reactions to trigger players taking actions.

He was being tough on players. Most is storms in water glasses and some is pushing things too far or intentionally or unintentionally making mistakes.

Same as the thing in Columbus, just a dumb thing overall. He to my understanding was trying to learn more personal things about the players to connect with them and some took offense or didn't dare to say I'm not comfortable with it. Could have been solved different.

Not saying he was, but there is some exaggerations going on to his style. He wasn't just a tyrant 24/7 like certain people want to push as an agenda. Even Zetterberg and Lidstrom said he could be hard on people. Zetterberg said in some interview he also got into verbal fights with him at times.
Both also said they didn't notice the thing about Franzen so as prominent players and Swedish as well it wasn't as big thing as some people say. Now I'm not saying Franzen didn't perceive it as such at some point, but it seems it was some other factors involved as well enhancing it overall, as those others haven't really taken notice of it that it was more than with others.

Everyone said he could coach well.
But yeah, all agree that personal management skills there were some let's say wrong points of view on how he did things to try getting the results. On different occasions it was for sure the wrong way to go about it.

Tell that to Commodore, whose abuse by Babcock had nothing to do with his on ice play.

Babcock was a master at exploiting power dynamics. In most cases he’d isolate the players he most abused while he simultaneously sucked up to senior management and gained the trust of team leaders.
Sure Zetterberg and Lidstrom probably knew Babcock was a dick; but it doesnt suprise me they were unaware of the true nature of Franzen’s abuse. That’s exactly what Babcock would have wanted.

I also don't buy that Babcock is ‘old school’. Even Chris Chelios, who played for numerous tyrants, said Babcock was on a different level in terms of disrespecting people.
And therein lies the difference between Babcock and, say, Keenan or Bowman. The latter two played vicious mind games but everything was done for a hockey related purpose. Keenan and Bowman are generally regarded as very nice people away from the rink.
Babcock? He’d consistently **** people over, hockey and not hockey related, to feed his own ego.

I just think of how many more cups Red Wings would have had without him...

I'm sure they came off lazy to Babcock which was probably his brain dead point of embarrassing them in front of everybody.

For his next act, he somehow gets hired by the Capitals and proceeds to healthy scratch Ovechkin preventing him from breaking Gretzky’s goal scoring record.:sarcasm:

The Twilight Zone
I wonder if Babcock was just accidentally a successful coach and primarily a psychopath first and foremost.

He was lucky that JS Giguere carried him to early success. That one Cup run was probably what got him his subsequent job with the powerhouse Wings.

If the Ducks meekly go out in '03 without Giguere's brilliant goaltending, is he even a candidate for the Detroit job? And without being a Cup winner in Detroit, does he go on to much else?

So blame Jiggy.
