Moose Season Discussion

Watching on TSN2 today had me wonder if Perfetti might get called up for a game. Looking at the upcoming schedule, Moose are in Toronto/Belleville area until May 16 and remaining Jets games are at home. I could be wrong, but I don’t foresee a scenario where they fly him back to Winnipeg to play a game and back out to Ontario to finish the AHL season.

I also wouldn’t consider him a true “black ace”, so doesn’t make sense to forgo finishing out the AHL season so he can get more NHL practices in.

There are no AHL playoffs and the winner of the division is already set. So the next few games for the moose really mean nothing. So call the kid to the Jet’s. Get him on the taxi squad and a larger paycheque and send him home happy with some extra cash for the summer.

He makes his AHL salary on the taxi squad.

I would think since we have clinched a spot the org will want to get him into a game as a reward for his play as well as a development opportunity for him.

That was a crazy, fun game -- looked like amped-up pond hockey at times, but Moose looked and played fast and hard and their D activate more often, more purposefully and more precisely than their big brothers on the Jets -- the whole team seems to have a Heinola/Perfetti vibe to it now, and they look bought-in. Thought Samberg and Kova were excellent in support and transition and the top two lines looked good, although I think they're looking to open things up a bit now that the season is effectively over.

Finally, the Moose seem to play as a five-man (six, when Berdin is on a tear) unit much more efficiently than the Jets do now but similarly to the long-lost, much-mourned Wolf Pack days -- rarely a lot of gaps for other teams to exploit and always looking to switch off into open lanes, with way more pressure up-ice and towards the net, making them difficult to defend against and trickier to run the counter against also. I honestly find it hard to see too much of the PoMo low-risk, low-event system at this point, and if they are in fact playing exactly as the Jets are, than I prefer Vincent's version pretty overwhelmingly.

I have said as much myself. Vincent has the Moose playing Maurice's system far better the Moe does. He allows creativity and trusts players to play the system without caviets.

I think it's very difficult to compare playing styles and effectiveness between the AHL and NHL. There are really big differences in skill levels. Last season, the Moose looked pretty bad, and I don't think Vincent is different as a coach. Also, only one decent opponent in the Moose's division, especially now that the Marlies are lousy.

Berdin got yanked due to some poor puck handling on the Marlies’ 2nd & 3rd goals. He needs to better gauge when it’s a good time to go out and handle the puck. Kehler (a leftie) looked fine in relief.

Yeah Vincent wasn't messing around.

Still has a very awkward looking posture and stride but he is more then able to keep up in the play ans his agility is excellent.

Another summer of.really focusing on it and he should be more then quick enough for the NHL.
Having his body mature over the next few years will help as well. I don’t think his skating will be an issue. The kid looks determined to make an impact and has in his D+1 year in the AHL. Plenty of NHL caliber players on the Marlies, and he not only didn’t look out of place, he performed pretty well by comparison.
