Value of: Montreal/Vegas

Karlsson is a total non starter in all likelihood. Do you have a better two way center to offer for him? Because that is the only reason they would move him. They have chosen to build down the middle and on defense. The top 4 on D is locked up long term. Them and the big 3 centers + Stone aren't going anywhere.

He's 6 million a year. Imagine they going to be looking for caproom

It would cost a lot more to enter the market to grab a replacement center than to just keep Karlsson. His goal scoring tends to fluctuate but he does a ton of little things well and is a savvy and experienced playoff performer who can log high minutes.

To grab another center who can play "hard" second line minutes and is a true, true center who is elite on the dot and defensively - well, that's just not easy to do, as it is clear in the current environment.

My post from the last one of these a month back...

We would be foolish to move him, unless the overpay is just un-saynoable.

Production, I have no concerns with his production it's down on the last year, sure but there are a few factors at play. Injury both playing and non playing, also being saddled with the dead weight of Holtz and Schwindt for the parts of the season he did play, haven't helped. We just reunited him Smith and they a looking fantastic together. He is an extremely dependable two way center, solid on the PK. He is one the last player we should consider moving.

For me, he's about as untouchable as it gets.

Thanks for just saying he's unavailable, rather than the standard HF answer of asking for a massive overpayment.

lol
this is the same to me; unavailable means that it'd take more than its worth.

Great player but considering Hughes saying he'd only trade for a player who be in his prime during our contention window and considering Karlsson's age, it doesn't fit.

Hypothetically:

Marner want's to sign as a UFA, Vegas has to move around 5-7m to make him fit, does that make Karlsson expendable?

No. Even in that hypothetical Vegas can't afford Marner. Right now they are going to have 9m in cap space and need to sign 3 top 9 wingers, a 4th line left wing and a backup goalie. Marner in and Karlsson out would leave them with probably 2 million in space and still needing 3 top 9 forwards and a backup goalie.

They aren't going to be in on Marner unless something crazy happens like Stone retiring.
