It'd be better if the 5th forward wasn't Hoffman. Or if we had 5 viable forwards

That's true, but I don't think an extra 2-3 minutes on the ice every game is going to kill him. Especially considering that it's much easier to add a few minutes of PP each game than time on the PK or even-strength.

I still think we somewhat misused Samsonov. He seemed to have some chemistry with Koivu but we barely kept them together.

Yeah they are easier minutes, but I don't think the plan is to increase his ice much more in his first full grind.
