Yes you would be correct if you were referring to any other team but Montreal

Montreal has had lottery picks for 3 years in a row and they selected the wrong player every time:

Reinbacher instead of michkov
Slaf instead of Cooley
Kotkaniemi instead of tkachuk

What’s the point in tanking if you are consistently making the wrong picks?

Reinbacher was a mistake
Slafkovsky > Cooley
Kotkaniemi was a mistake made by Bergevin

Montreal
WAY too early to think about this. Nobody knows who will be buyers, who will be sellers, and what the holes are that need to be filled. I agree that Montreal will probably trade their expiring contracts, but why argue about the returns now when nothing is clear? Wait until January/February.

Savard should get a lot of interest. Too few legit 2nd pairing RD in the league.
You're right, there are too few of those, especially since Savard won't be a top 4 D on any team that will trade for him

Reinbacher was a mistake
Slafkovsky > Cooley
Kotkaniemi was a mistake made by Bergevin
All things being equal, you always take the centre over the winger and so far Cooley and Slaf is too close to call anyway

There's lots we know, and Montreal being sellers is one of the things that everyone outside Montreal knows. Chicago, SJ, Anaheim & CBJ all will be too, so its' never too early to speculate, that's what this site is built for

Slaf is too Much of a physical Beast to pass on
Maybe, it's different every year, but that draft had no clear cut #1, so who knows, but it will be a while b4 any solid determinations can be made. If Cooley develops into the #1 C Utah needs, it'll be no contest, he'll have more value than Slaf, all things being equal contractually at least
