To parrot what others have already said: Emelin is not garbage. He's been awesome for us.

Not going to say he is a huge upgrade but he is, right now, better than Zadorov. Won't be for much longer but right now he is. Beauchemin and Emelin this year are similar.

Emelin has actually been playing the best hockey of his career,

you can bold it all you want, he is not better right now.

zadorov is better than beauchemin right now also

You can deny it all you want .It doesn't make you right.
Well that makes it Emelin> Zadorov> Beauchemin.

lol no he wouldnt

he's just contribute to the log jam of bottom pairing defensemen who get asked to do more than they should.

hes not beter than ej, barrie, beach or weir.

he essential will just be in the way of brigas's roster spot next year which is why i dont want him at all.

He plays on the top pair for the #1 team in the league.

Vancouver
To Colorado
- David Desharnais
- Alexei Emelin

To Montreal
- Jarome Iginla
- Fedor Tyutin

Avs get a tough defenceman on contract next season and see if DD can follow other Quebec forwards in having a fresh start in Colorado.

Montreal gets a veteran RW that can help in the locker and maybe some last playoff heroics. Tyutin fills Emelin's spot and would be a better partner for Weber.

WOW! I guess you haven't been watching the Habs this year. Give it a try before making such ridiculous proposals.

I haven't seen Iginla play very much in the last year or two....is he really that bad?

People need to watch hockey before commenting. Emelin was a good top 4 defender before his injury. Then, he gets wiped out by Lucic, is injured, loses his confidence, and comes back to play a big hitting role on a soft team. So, yes, right after his return he was weak, played scared, and had some issues.

This season, he is on a team with some grit and strength, is playing with confidence, is laying people on the ice with huge hits, has a top pair partner that also scares people going into the corners, and is back to his top 4 pre-injury form. He is not garbage and would be an upgrade for Colorado's top 4. He is worth far more than the players offered in this deal.

If Colorado could sucker Beregevin into making the OP, they do it as fast as they can before Bergevin comes down from his chemical high...

Emelin... ~20mins/game for about 4 seasons straight on what has been one of the better teams in the East (minus last season, injuries) still a 6th or 7th according to most HF posters.

Uh yeah no, try watching a Habs game before making a proposal...Emelin has been the complete opposite of garbage this year alongside Weber. When Weber was acquired, everyone thought that he'd have a big impact on Beaulieu, not nobody considered the impact that he would have on Emelin.

I think you can attribute some of the credit to Emelin himself. He shed a lot of weight over the summer and is playing a lot smarter with the puck, faster decisions than previous years.

Emelin has been this good in the past. It's not coming out of the blue right after he started playing with Weber.

He's just inconsistent, and the knee injury didn't help a couple seasons ago. Right now, he's playing at top 4 level.

He's still overpaid, but certainly not garbage.

I have never understood the few posters who categorize Emelin as depth garbage.

I'm not sure how much more solid he has to play to open your eyes. The guy is a very solid player and the Habs would miss him a lot if he was gone.

High chances to be a Golden Knight next season

I agree with others Emelin's been playing well with Weber (who wouldn't).

The intangible with Emelin is he drives other teams nuts with hate.....he hits like a truck & a lot of those hits are borderline, lol.

Well, his hits are clean 99% of the time, the one on Bertuzzi (if that's one of the hits implied), well the kid just did fall in a bad way, and I hope he'll be ok soon. But it wasn't even borderline.

But yeah, he's even surprising most of Habs fans this season, hasn't played this well for a couple of seasons now. We mostly all thought his play would downgrade at some point, but it hasn't so far.

So, for the op, Emelin garbage ? Nope.

Hi, yeah, I mean borderline for today's NHL......you know the of hit that has the other team thinking a fight needs to accompany it?

Emelin doesn't fight since he had his face crushed some years ago, but other players (& fans) think he should drop the gloves. I'm on the fence unless it's dirty and deliberate, then you have to answer the bell.

Cheers.

The only bad part of Emelin is his contract. HE is a better more physical version of Josh Gorges. lots of other teams call him dirty. he can get make dumb plays like the hit on JVR but to call him dirty is really ignorant. he has all the physical tools youd like in a d man. the only thing that he isnt really very good at is his offensive game. He doesnt get any PP time thats for sure and eats up many of the PK minutes. he will still up about 15-20 points per year with no pp time which is quite surprising.

HE had a bad stretch after his knee injury during the lockout season and our D really suffered after hew was gone. the following year he returned and obviously wasnt the same player as before. ususally take about a year for a knee injury anyway. but in the playoffs that season he absolutely physically dominated the bruins and Lucic, including getting speared in the nads by milan twice

he still struggle that season over all and the following as well but he was mostly playing on his offside on the right with markov on the left,

overall last season he was effective in the midst of a horrible overall season for the habs.

i would never call him garbage. liek i said cap hit at 4.1 is bad.. but its not the end of the world with him becoming ufa after next season.
