This shouldn't be the standard for young players to meet, hell, it shouldn't be the standard for any player if we're being honest.
Bad choice of words.
His preseason has shown alot of good things but there have been moments when he looked not so good.
It is a game of mistakes and from what I have seen (only my amateur opinion) he hasn't been much better than Xhekaj or Harris.

Yeah I figured...my reply was more of a general thought as I often find fans point out that mistakes made by young players are an indicator that they're not ready or they should be sent down.

Agreed with this...I've found that all of Guhle, Xhekaj, Harris, Barron have all had good moments and bad moments.

Personally I think at least 2 of them will have to start in the NHL this year, maybe as much as 3 if things on the waiver wire don't shake out as intended.

I do think he look much better then Harris and Xhekaj (more steady). He will make mistakes that's for sure like all young rookie Dmen. Look at Thomas Chabot who we played against yesterday, in his 1st year he did make mistakes but it didn't hurt his development. We need to be ready to live with those mistakes

One more thing on Guhle- MSL has pretty much penciled him with Savard.
I'm expecting some combination of

Guhle-Savard/Matheson-Barron/Harris-Wideman

Schueneman mixing in as well...maybe Bowey as well.

I would have no issue if Kent claimed Beaudin from Chicago.
Not familiar with his game but I'm expecting them to pick up a RHD via waivers.

Leskinen is better than Schueneman.
Sure...I'm guilty of forgetting about him, he's also in the mix.

That's a very green defense though...the Edmunson injury looms large.

But like I keep saying, for the first time in forever, we don't have to act like the playoffs are an actual reachable objective.

Guhle will stay at least until Edmundson is back. When he will return, we will have better information on if we keep him in the NHL or it could be better for him to play a little bit in the AHL

Well, they'll bring:

Caufield-Suzuki-Hoffman
Dadonov-Dvorak-Gallager
Drouin-Dach-Anderson
Pitlick-Monahan-Evans

Byron is injured
Not sure about Armia now. Ditto Heineman.

That leaves RHP, Pezzetta & Slafkovsky, as 13th forward or extra in case someone gets injured Thursday and can't go Saturday.

D:

Matheson-Barron
Guhle-Savard
Xhekaj-Harris
Leskinen-Wideman

Edmundson is injured. They'll keep an 8th D in case of injury in Thursdays game.

They'll likely bring Allen, Montembeault & Primeau for same reasons.

Everyone else to Laval.

15F
8D
3G

26 players, with another 3 Byron, Armia & Edmundson on IR.
That sad feeling when your 4th line is better than your 2nd and 3rd.

Ohhh FFS!

Nick probably felt his injury wasn't 100% and they don't want to make him play more pre-season games before the first game of the season next week.

Oh, edit: they say it's uper body injury so it's not the same thing as last 2 weeks.

We have no idea. We haven't had anything close to a full lineup in a preseason game so far.

That explains why Suzuki wasn't on the ice in the 6 on 5 at the end of the game
Not even a guess? Surely they have played with some player on the blueline on the powerplay no? Who has it been, wideman?

Caufield and Suzuki are the only guarantees to be on the top unit.
They've tried a lot of different dman in the top unit (including rookies), but one of Matheson or Wideman is very most likely be chosen there when the season starts
Last season, Wideman was on the top unit when St. Louis took over

So while everyone is going full "the rink is melting" again, I went to check some teams preseason stats (I didn't look at players who only played one game). Small sample size, but still indicative of trends and behaviors.

Slaf has played the second most of all forwards league-wide in 4 games (which seems to be what most played so far).

I suggest people pray that Gallagher, Armia and Evans stays healthy all season long and that Harris stays up. Or you will have to endure Hoffman a little while longer. These are the best scoring chances generator on the team not named Caufield...the "pp specialist" isn't a joke this preseason might I add (might replace itself with the NHL lineup). Otherwise you want Slafkovsky and Heineman to stay the entire season in the NHL, especially Slaf. Oh and only Caufield, Slaf and Gally generate rebounds it seems. While I said I didn't check one game samples, Monahan seems to be a good chance generator after one game...

Beck was a very popular target by opposing players: 13 hits taken, 2nd on the team behind Harris (24!). It drops to 9 after them (Xhekaj).

Best at takeaways: Slaf and Evans...but lots of people with 1 less than them. For the record, I never understood how this stat is counted, it never seems to match the eye test.

Worst at Giveaways: the 3 amigos Guhle, Harris and Barron....and Hoffman (Joshua Roy too).

Guhle, RHP and Barron loves to block shots.
