HF Habs: Montreal Canadiens Hockey Ops - Part 3

Kent Hughes went at the Processus podcast. I could watch it since I took the Patreon membership for 1 month and it was very interesting ! The episode will be out on every platform next week. One thing he said, is if they didn’t traded for Alex Newhook, they would have pick Gavin Brindley and Jacob Fowler with those picks but the scouts where confident they could get Fowler in the 3rd round

Here is a video of a part of the interview on what he said to Slaf this year

Slaf needs to realize that it's not because he'll play more of a North-South game that he wont be worthy of being 1st overall.

They are now entering the more difficult period of the rebuild, as they now have to use the assets they've acquired to build a competitive team. This is what separates mediocre GMs from the good ones. Even a mediocre GM can do a decent job hoarding assets during a selling phase. He can even draft well or get lucky at the draft.

Hugo's player acquisition is a bit of a mixed bag thus far, but even with some of their misses, I've liked the reasoning and willingness to take risk. I think we're in good hands.

Hearing Kent speak is so refreshing. Has to be one of the most intelligent and nuanced thinkers running a team in the NHL right now. Never once felt that way about the previous regime.
He definitely sounds lucid and aware.

Gauthier was very cagey and tight, Gainey was a archaic, and Bergevin doesn’t need describing. So yes, Hughes comes across actually intelligent.

I don’t agree with all his decisions but I respect them and when he explains his decisions it becomes even more clear that he’s thought them through.
