Can’t find a nutritionist expert in that list ; I propose we bring in mama Xhekaj on the staff to feed the boys; she sure knows how to add vinegar and proteins to a recipe to build up big strong and mean boys.

They have a sport dietitian. Her name is Renée Racine

Next step now is to hire a good assistant coach that will help MSL taking the next step

As Hughes mentioned, that will be up to MSL. He might prefer to simply have Letowski and Robidas. Or he might end up preferring to replace Burrows and keep Letowski right next to him.

Here is my list of candidates for the assistant coach of MSL

David Carle

Jay Pandolfo

Jay Woodcoft

Don Granato

Jim Hulton

Greg Carvel

Greg Brown

Anthony Noreen

Matt McIlvane
Pandolfo woul be the perfect foil for Marty.
Someone who lived on the other side of the Red Line.

Every good teams have 3 assistants, I do hope a green coach like MSL will bring an other one.

Vinny Lecavalier??? Help the PP
Nah we need someone with experience, we don’t need a PP specialist. MSL is already running the PP

So in 3 drafts, KH has added 5 first round prospects...
Slaf, Demidov, Hage, Mesar, Reinbabcher

And, turned 2 other first round picks into Dach & Newhook, both recent first rounders.

7 first round talents added to the organization in 3 drafts, just 2 1/2 years into a GMs tenure.

Plus added as many as 6 other prospects with legit shots at being first round talents from their draft class in a re-draft 5 years later (Beck, Hutson, Engstrom, Konyuskov, Fowler, Xhekaj).

This is what "build through the draft" actually looks like.

I wonder if Bargainbin is watching this unfold and taking notes 😂
So many people don't get that. They are like we lost the Lehkonen trade KH is bad bla bla. But when you trade vets for picks and young players you'll miss it's inevitable but the point is to avoid your assets to diminish in value and hopefully make them incrase in value.

So far KH traded at the TDL :

Lehkonen
Chiarot
Edmundson
Toffoli
Kulak
Hammond
Petry
Poehling
DeSmith
Allen
Our own 2nd round pick 2023

And he got

Matheson
Barron
Hage
Newhook
Hutson
Konyushkov
Mesar
Haineman
Tyler Thorpe
Logan Sawyer
Pens 2nd round pick 2025 (will be at the top of the 2nd round)
Flames/SJ 1st round pick 2025 (higher one if both not top 10)
Detroit / Boston 4th round pick 2025 (later one)
Vancouver 3rd round pick 2025
NJ 3rd round pick 2025

Now yes KH will miss with some of the trades there. But man it's not like we traded some high quality stuff there. I like Lehkonen but he benifits a lot from MacKinnon and Rantanen. He's a good 2nd line guy with a normal center on a normal team imo. The rest is a bunch of old players who were 50 points guys in their prime or depth players. Maybe all the prospects and the 2025 picks he acquired will miss but i highly doubt this.

Agreed. Someone who has been a head coach but is content with being an assistant later in their career. Someone MSL respects and works well with.

I would call this opportunity based on timing. Don't force it, wait it out for the right person.

Kind of jealous of the Leafs. They hired a fantastic new director of amateur scouting in Mark Leach whom I wish we had

Definitely a real good hire for the Leafs.

But I will say, since the new management and likely changing a bit of the philosophy of the draft, and in 2 drafts (2022 and 2023), the Bobrov/Lapointe combination has drafted some real intriguing prospects.

I don't count 2024 yet because aside from Demidov and Hage, I don't know much about any of the other picks and will wait to at least a year to see how they do.

We'll definitely wait to see how these prospects do whether they reach the NHL and whether they are effective. But you look at some of their later picks in 2022: Engstrom, Rohrer, and Davidson, along with Slaf, Mesar, Beck & Hutson.

And in 2023: Fowler, FloJack, Konyushkov, Volokhin, and Eriksson from the 3rd round and later + Reinbacher.

I watched the Canadiens behind the scenes draft video for 2018 (Kotkaniemi draft) and it is so cringey. So much focus on fitness, fitness, fitness, no discussion at all about skills, hockey IQ, etc. When you watch the 2022 and 2023 behind the scenes videos, some of the scouts from 2018 are still around, but they are talking about players more holistically I find.

We will see.

I don’t know why, just don’t like Lapointe still being there. Anyrhing still with a connection to Bozovin and Timbits makes me uneasy. Guilt by association I guess

The scouting staff is mostly the same outside Bobrov, Gorton and Hughes joining and MB, Timmins and Churla being out. Yet we can see a big difference to how draft selection are made.

There may be nothing wrong with most of the scouting staff just the people in charge (MB and Timmins). Just like it is hard to evaluate a GM, like Waddell,, when the owner is interfering with decisions.

Yup.

In the 2022 video, you even hear Gorton say that at some level, the players they should take produced offensively, particularly the forwards.

He joked that he loves Marty Lapointe, but he wouldn't want 20 of him. But if you look at the forwards they've drafted, they all had put up offensive numbers at different levels.

I can't disagree with the way you feel. But even as a Bergevin hire, he's still doing a good job in a two-headed role with Bobrov.

Don't forget, almost all of the amateur scouts are from the Bergevin era. Some preceded him, but a lot of them were there during the Bergevin reign and they're still there. For me, it's not so much who's still there, but it's more about the draft philosophy.
