What exactly would be the incentive to quiet down the crowd for broadcast?

I mean I know in some circumstances they have elevated crowd noise. But I've never heard of the opposite.

The Rangers have played the Habs off the ice. The goaltending has been the difference.

Do you watch games on NBC and other channels? If you compare the crowd noise from NBC to, say, RDS, it's tremendously louder on the non-NBC channel. This is not that difficult of a question. Multiple people have told you they do this everywhere.

It allows the listener to focus on the commentary and on-ice audio (i.e. whistles). There's a reason that the NBC audio feed sounds different than the home broadcaster's audio feed. It's been like that forever. This isn't something new.

I don't know, I think game six in Philly was pretty horrifically bad. That would qualify as worse imo.
