If there is anyone interested in buying the team why did the league have to take it over?
I don't follow the Als much, but my understanding is that Cecchini really loved the team and cared about his role. IIRC he was shocked to not have been renewed. So yeah, seems to be good news indeed. Let's just hope the ownership stuff will get sorted soon and that we don't end up as the Montreal Coyotes.Very happy Cecchini is back.
He was gone because the organization had decided not to renew his contract.
All of that BS was because of ownership.
So I'm happy the league bought them back and brought Checchini back.

Montreal has been trying to get an NFL franchise since at least the late 60s.I think the presence of the CFL is far down the list of things that would prevent Montreal from having an NFL team. Things like ownership, a stadium & whether the NFL is even interested would be a bigger problem. At this time I'm not sure that the presence of the CFL would even stop the NFL if they really wanted a team in Montreal (or Toronto or Vancouver)
Every game would be sold out, that's not an issue. The problem is the TV deals, that's where the big revenue is.Montreal has been trying to get an NFL franchise since at least the late 60s.
I remember this Mtl businessman (I think his name was Snider) who used to provide updates of his efforts with the press. He seemed to be in close contact with influential owners and the commissioner’s office. That’s probably as close as we’ve gotten and that probably wasn’t even that close.
Barrier to entry was at its lowest in the 70s and we still couldn’t land a franchise. Now, it looks impossible.Every game would be sold out, that's not an issue. The problem is the TV deals, that's where the big revenue is.
I don't think the NFL is interested in Canada. We would also need a football stadium built because the Olympic toilet bowl ain't it.Barrier to entry was at its lowest in the 70s and we still couldn’t land a franchise. Now, it looks impossible.
Doesn't look good for pro football in Montreal does it. Down to 12,000 a game, owners ditched team and now losing best players to free agency10 to 15 grand.
Als have been going downhill since Calvillo's retirement. I'm not sure i've watched a game since. Calvillo with Cahoon was magic.Doesn't look good for pro football in Montreal does it. Down to 12,000 a game, owners ditched team and now losing best players to free agency
Does the CFL not have to approve the sale of a team?Because the priority was to get the Als away from Stern instead of having Stern sell the team to whoever he wanted to and whenever he wanted to.
Might be able play few in Eastern Canada. Increase revenueHas anyone made the bad joke about the Als playing home games in San Juan yet? If not, consider this it.
And now I leave and likely never see this thread again. Bye!
I had a joke about signing more players than CF Montreal but I won't do it.Has anyone made the bad joke about the Als playing home games in San Juan yet? If not, consider this it.

If I had more money I would buy the team. Just to run a once great franchise.Call Ryan Reynolds maybe he'd like a CFL team also...
