Guys that are full time NHL players.

Sweeney has done that. I am going middle of the road here, though. While he has gotten some regular NHL players from draft positions that more often give you nothing (Frederic, Beecher for example), you'd hope he'd have done a little better anyway. I think of picks like Vaak, Studnicka, Axel Andersson, JFK (that one maybe not his fault) and wish there'd been a bit more there there if you know what I mean. The Bruins have not really drafted an impact player since McAvoy, right? Pretty much everyone they have that has made it is of the quality that you can sign as cheap UFAs or make low-level deals to acquire. The cupboard is bare. Some of it is on Sweeney, some of it is draft position, but in the end it's been mediocre.

I am not opposed at all to trading this year's first if it goes for a young player approaching their prime that can be an impact player. If it goes to get another veteran deadline player, then I'd prefer to keep it.If kept, we are looking at a mid-round pick that might or might not give you a quality player a few years down the road. I'd rather see that turned into a player that can help now, so long as it's the right one.

Agreed. Yet it still would require a conversation if for nothing else than work out the salary aspects of things until season end. The team losing the coach would still be on the hook for any $ difference if there is one.
I think the conspiracy stuff is being overblown.
I'm worried about them bringing Sullivan here if that happens. He has that Pittsburgh team playing that same uninspired defenseless hockey Monty had here, please avoid that.

So Monty 100% had plans to not resign here, go to St Louis in the offseason. Can't take the heat in a hockey market, got outcoached with a SC lock of a roster.

Players gave up on the coach, is it because the coach gave up on them?

How about Swayman in 2017 (4th round)?

Lauko in the 3rd round was a pretty good pick in 2018.

They could have done better than Beecher in 2019. But he is a regular at this point.

They got Lohrei in 2020 late 2nd round.

Could have done better than Lysell in 2021. But 15 first round picks that year haven't played as many as 10 games in the NHL yet.

Poitras in 2022 at this point looks like the best available at 54 that year.

I think that's better than mediocre.

I agree with the sentiments that Monty was no longer invested in the team as this season went on. His bad body language on the bench and some of his post game interviews spoke volumes. His heart wanted to be somewhere else and im guessing that probably started to bleed over into his coaching and preparation for games.

I think the part of the bolded you have though is "impact" and I'm not sure I'd call Lauko, Lohrei or Poitras "impact players" at this moment.

This is becoming the "trash the guy out the door with assumptions" thread.

Way too many judgments being tossed around by posters who have zero insight into the situation or minds of the people involved.
Guy had a 5 year offer in his pocket from the Blues starting 2025-26 latest. Blues were hoping he got bounced after Toronto so they could pounce then, reupped with Bannister 3 days later (after Bannister's Blues played at a .600 clip) after the Bruins won for 2 years.

No intention of signing a long term deal here, season started slow and lo and behold the players coach started shredding Marchand on the bench and sitting Pasta for an entire period. Every facet of the team was trash and instead of a new game plan, mindset or whatever he juggled lines every night.

See ya.

I'd say for goalies and D, the Bruins are above the league average over the past 10 drafts. Swayman and Vladar are legitimate NHL goaltenders with plenty of runway left. McAvoy, Carlo, Lindgren, Lohrei, Lauzon and even Vaakainanen are all NHL caliber D-men and I'd wager at least 5 of them play between 700-1000 games.

But up front, I think you'd be hard pressed to find drafting results worse then Boston under Sweeney. If you were to cobble together a couple lines of Sweeney drafted forwards based on their careers thus far, you'd have:

Frederic - Poitras - Debrusk

Beecher - Studnicka - Lauko
