Is it a coincidence the Bruins don't play the St. Louis Blues again this year?

It is, but let's just say it's convenient. Avoids what would be quite an awkward clash for both parties.

Can't imagine there would be too many examples in the history of the league where a coach has faced his former team within the same season he departed it. If any??

All the nice words about JM in vain right. For all I know he fckd up the best team in 2023. The worst appearance by a playoff coach ever seen. It would have been better had he stayed away from the rink.
The Bruins out played Florida even without Bergy and Krejci until mr Smart got the great idea of changing a line up that was clicking on every cylinder.

I couldn't care less for Monty, he may had a great regular season record but stay away from the PO's. Can't blame Sweeney for this, maybe should have asked for a pick in return:mad:

Bettman ruled long ago that a fired coach can go to a new team without compensation.

The person who got blindsided by this is Claude Julien.

Monty has 4 kids to get through college - I wish him well

81% of drafted players don't play in the NHL.

The fact that Sweeney has pulled 13 NHL players out of 43 draft picks (almost all of which are late picks), including two franchise cornerstones in McAvoy and Swayman is much better than average drafting.
What are we calling an NHL player? Do they need a single NHL game to be considered an NHLer?

Bergeron: Monty I'm ready to go, let's close out this series against Florida

Monty: f*** you buddy we just won two games without you and Krejci. I don't care if you're our captain and one of the greatest two-way players of all time, you & Krejci can kick rocks

Big commitment from blues to monty I would have just promoted julien instead . Better coach. Didnt he win a cup also?😃
He's basically a dinosaur at this point and another Jaques Lemaire.

If he were out of work a couple weeks ago I much would have rather hired him than Sacco.

Exactly. Because that's how he would say it.

You're right he wouldn't say it like that. Just like he wouldn't tell Bergeron he's sitting him because the team won two games without him in the line-up. For someone to basically blame the Bruins choke job on Monty for inserting Bergeron & Krejci back into the line-up is asinine.

I am sure Sweeney knew Armstrong would hire Monty in a heartbeat.

Agreed. Yet it still would require a conversation if for nothing else than work out the salary aspects of things until season end. The team losing the coach would still be on the hook for any $ difference if there is one.
I think the conspiracy stuff is being overblown.

Monty messed up in that series imo anyway. Nobody else

Ya, I'm sure Ullmark's 3.33 GAA & .986 SV% had nothing to do with it.

The Bruins had a 3-1 series lead. Game 5 they get a little unlucky. Game 6 they were up 5-4 with roughly 10 minutes to go. They proceed to give up 2 goals in 5 minutes with FLA hitting the ENG to win 7-5. Game 7 they were up 3-2 with a minute to go.....and gave up a GTG which eventually led to an OT loss.

I have nothing against Monty. I was just losing my mind over his look for the perfect shot system. And long break out attempt passes. To deploy that you need some serious talent. This isnt the roster for that.

In regard to Claude, Im betting he’s Pittsburgh before long. Just gut feel.

Perfectly said. The 2023 roster was built for that kind of game and we saw what Monty's system can do with the right talent. The problem is this team isn't built for that style of hockey. Sweeney & Neely wanted to get bigger and tougher to play against. Finding big, tough & skilled players is like searching for needle in a haystack.

He quit on his team this season knowing full well he would end up a Blue, F him.

Posters acting like he is Scott Bowman, lol He was a clown that owes his record to two goaltenders not his coaching skill. Like I said F him, should have been canned a few years ago.

Which team is in worse shape right now, Bruins or Patriots? Both debacles.
The Red Sox

Dallas had a great season with Monty coaching; da Broons had 2 great seasons with Monty.

When they win, it's the players; when they lose, it's the coach.
Monty has a decent offensive system as other posters are saying when loaded with talent. His defense systems are an absolute disaster and every year further removed from Bruce they got worse on that end. You can see it in the 2 games they've played since he's left how much better the defense is playing.

I'd say the Patriots are worse. The Bruins have the talent, its just not translating to the ice. The Patriots lack talent at every position expect for QB
To put the two in the same category is laughable. Pats are baaaaaaad and have been for a long time and will still be 5 years from now. The QB is the only glimmer of hope and that's not even a given.

Then again its probably the worst league as far as good teams goes so there's a chance.

Definitely the pats man

By comparison it would be like the bruins with a worse record, it’s March, and we’re basically already out of the playoffs

The bruins will probably squeeze into the Wc2 this year

And it’ll be the funniest thing ever if we knock out a 1 seeded Toronto

They’ll 100% think they’re cursed at that point

I believe they were up 3-1 when Bergeron was put back in the lineup. Bergeron was hurt, he wasn't a healthy scratch. He had barely skated in a few weeks, no need for him to be put in.

Hey Patrice, were up 3-1. We're cooking here, lets give you more time to heal up and we can re-evaluate.

I guess Ulmark had to play injured also..

Glad we're done with this guy. He had one foot out the door the whole time. Couldn't steer the ship in playoffs.

I'm not a Sweeney bootlicker either -- I still think that firing Cassidy was a massive mistake and management (Neely?) should be next to go. But they were right to cut loose from Monty, regardless of how Sacco does.
