Beat Utah at home and start there . These 2 points are crucial. Team should be practicing like there is no tomorrow. Let's go! I want playoffs.

Amazing that Kelly and Leach were not let go as well. Then again, Sacco was promoted.
Sacco has previous coaching experience and was a finalist for jack Adams back in the avalanche days. Let's give him a shot.

How hard is it to understand that you don't rebuild your entire coaching staff mid-season when the options are more scarce? Do it in the offseason when more guys are available and you have your pick
It’s obvious none of the coaching staff have a clue. You think the PK has been good? The power play? More guy’s available? You could get someone off the street to do a better job than Jay Leach and Chris Kelly. It should have been a clean sweep.

Well, after over 50 years of watching the Bs, and living through over 20ish (25?) different coaching changes, I can tell you what I expect...

I expect the team to play like their hair is on fire for the next three to five games, after that, it's usually a crap-shoot, so we'll have to wait and see.
They will get in. A hot swayman is my hope.

Literally nothing has been good, but you completely missed the point. This season is 50/50 at best even with Monty fired. Keep what you have and if they suck, well great we have a high draft pick, if they don't suck then also great.

But if you're going to rebuild the staff why would you do it mid season when there will be more to pick from in the offseason?

I don't think size itself is a problem. It's size with no speed and not much skill. And they don't play in a way that makes use of the size advantage to offset the lack of speed/skill. Sweeney talked about speed, but added only Koepke and Jones as players with any sort of jump, and that's just not enough on a roster that was already far from fast. That's the issue IMO.

I think there are two parts here:

1. They need more speed/skill on the roster, which I think we all knew (including the front office)
2. It’s a lineup made for Julien/Cassidy style of play and Monty didn’t get them to transition to that.

Monty is gone because of number 2. Hopefully, in a dozen games Sacco has them there.

1 remains.

I heard that theory on the radio today. That there was a kind of carryover from 15 years of structure and culture and Monty rode those coattails.

That Monty said many times in his first year that the team pretty much coached themselves. Then last year all those good habits and work ethic started to erode and they went .500 in the second half.

Again, not my theory. Don't shoot the messenger.

I think this is a good theory. Structure & culture do not perpetuate themselves, they have to be carried on by each succeeding generation of players & coaches. The problem is a watering down process can take place as the coaches & players who set the original structure and culture move on for various reasons. IMO this is what has happened. Right now only #63 & coach Chris Kelly is left of the group that established the structure/culture that led to a Cup in 2011 and 2 trips to the Final. I think the Bruins need to re-establish & re-dedicate themselves to the "Bruins way" as it were- tough to play against plus responsible & accountable to one another.

I have no idea where he gets his information. It’s his job to get ratings and entertain for four hours per day. I usually listen for a while each day and enjoy it.
I'd have a hard time listening to Felger if he was offering me a bag of cash, let alone listen to him on the radio.

I judge a person by if I'd encourage my kids to emulate them. Too many people these days fall in the "do the opposite and you'll be great" category. Felger is an opposite guy -- or more simply in the "try not to be a massive dick" category.

Since you are the eternal optimist here, I'll give you something to be hopeful about.

Since our entire roster has underperformed, it's probably realistic to expect a correction at some point. Mathematicians call it regressing to the mean. It just means that if there's a really high high, or low low that eventually things will overcorrect the other way and you'll end up back at your normal, or career average.

So if Pastrnak is currently on pace for 70 points, and his career average is 90 points, it would be reasonable to think he's going to have a hot stretch or two where he's scoring at a 110 point pace for a short period of time.

Now apply that course correction to the entire Bruins roster, all at the same time.

I guess not too many people feel the way you do seeing as he’s quite popular according to ratings.

He’s not afraid to call out the two clowns running the show and he did it several times so far today.

... was he not focused on this prior practices? I do hope the Bruins have an external coach hiring planned.
Also, don’t forget the other two clowns Kelly and Leach. Listening to talk radio today has been hilarious. They just had a good laugh about Kelly coaching the power play.

The death throes of a coaching tenure tend to look similar in nature, as they try all manner of button-pushing possible to inspire better results. That almost always includes the calling out of a team’s best players, it includes some coaching-through-the-media, and a few surprising lineup decisions. Like with technology, when nothing works, sometimes we just mash the buttons and hope, and let’s be real, that’s kind of what it looked like for Jim Montgomery at the end with Boston.

What that does speak to though, is how that roster as currently constructed didn’t leave him with a lot of options (nor does it new interim head coach Joe Sacco).

The 2023 Jennings Trophy duo of Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman saw the former traded, and the latter dragged through contract negotiations until he missed all of training camp. They paid Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm to be Zdeno Chara and Patrice Bergeron (or at least David Krejci?), which they aren’t and simply can’t be. And then they had some unfortunate health luck with guys like David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand, who weren’t able to train properly in the summer, as they were instead rehabbing injuries.

When you step back and look at what the Bruins roster is at this point, it’s built on a single premise: they require David Pastrnak to be one of the league’s best, Charlie McAvoy to be the same, and Jeremy Swayman to be Vezina calibre. Otherwise, they’re just another team in the mushy middle, which would be a generous review of their play to date.

To top it off, nobody has picked up the scoring with Pastrnak’s drop, as Brad Marchand is on pace for 54 points, with Lindholm third, tracking for 37.

All this brings me to what was Jim Montgomery’s reality: when your stars aren’t going, and your next layers of offence simply don’t exist, what’s left aside from publicly taking the taser to your best players? He’s a smart guy and would’ve recognized that’s the only real path back to competitive hockey for this Bruins team.

If you zoom out and look at teams who win in the post-season, you almost always need to be able to play the game multiple ways. Brian Burke likes to say you need to be built to handle teams in four different ways, you might need to be faster than one opponent, more skilled than the next, bigger than one, and smarter than another.

The Florida Panthers have played in eight playoff series over the past two seasons, winning seven. We’ve seen them go toe-to-toe with teams physically, which is their bread and butter, but we’ve also seen them win in a variety of different ways. It’s the reputation my Dad’s Islanders teams had back in the 80s, that they were willing to hang in there any way their opponents wanted to compete.

For Jim Montgomery’s Bruins — or should I say, Don Sweeney’s Bruins — when the stars started slowly, the next option they tried seemed to be to act like the Bruins of old — a tough team — which isn’t great when you can’t get a penalty killed. They have the most PIMs in the NHL, with the 25th-ranked PK.

It’s tempting to give Jim Montgomery a pass for the performance of his team, particularly given that he just won the Jack Adams Trophy for coach of the year in 2023. That year, the B’s set the NHL record with a staggering 135 points.

But a full pass is not quite what we’re offering. That same year, they were eliminated in the first round in heartbreaking fashion by the aforementioned Panthers.

And so the lateral toss of the ball goes to Sacco, who’s now faced with the same challenges as his predecessor, with presumably no new answers. As I often say in these situations, if Sacco knew the solution, it would’ve been real cool for him to have shared them already with Montgomery and the team.

Now that being said, I understand teams need a leader in the transition to a new coach, which I hope is the case here. I say “I hope” not because of Sacco himself, but because to me, naming an assistant coach as “interim” for the year is a punt on a season you’re not serious about turning around.

The only case where I’d waver on that: if an assistant coach was adamant about his ideas, but the previous coach wouldn’t allow him to implement any of them. But even that is, to some extent, a failure to win people over, which is a big part of coaching.

But when the tough gets going, so far the Bruins have been in trouble — they haven’t had a second game plan. But a new leader has the pen at the whiteboard and has the chance to draw up something different.

Oh I get it. But that, my friend, is what worries me.

That Felger gets big ratings is NOT a good sign for society.

Not just Fluto saying that. Marchand has hinted at it, Monty said something to that effect, even Swayman suggested he's lost the respect of the room.

There is definitely some ill will towards him about how he went about his contract negotiation.

Not that that is THE reason they're losing, but it's certainly one of the many reasons they're out of sync (along with lack of offense, power play, penalty kill, Dzone structure, Nzone structure, fitness level, compete level...)
What is this? NHL hockey players or L.A. Housewives. ''lost respect of the room'', really? Fluto is a salesman.

So Monty may have been a lame duck at this choosing....seemed to be tougher with the players this year.

Sweeney stood up and took all the responsibility on himself if the team isn't what he thinks they are. I applaud him for that.

Back to hockey for me, looking forward to them being closer to the 110 pt team I thought they might be then this nonsense.

I doubt they even do much of that at all. Sweeney/neely have a bunch of fraternity style “yes men” under them now. They don’t want to give that up.

To those saying that the idea of Bruins “culture” is overrated, look no further than a team like Toronto and try to tell me there is no discernible difference to how both teams conduct themselves.
