Like several people here I think the onus for the season falls much more on Swayman than it does on Montgomery, but you don't get to sign and then fire Swayman so Monty takes the fall.

Ultimately, if things don't turn around Jacobs and/or Neely get to decide if the fault falls on Swayman or the GM who had a hand in creating the Swayman situation, but ultimately that's the biggest thing.

I keep Pastrnak. Anyone else, even McAvoy can be traded for the right price. Question is if we trust Sweeney to be invested enough to make the trade or if he knows his time in Boston is dwindling as well.
If the country club attitude doesn’t change over the course of the next couple months, there should be nobody safe. I am not saying trade Pastrnak but if somebody wants to back the Brinks truck up with prospects and pics, do it for the rebuild.

For example, I was under the impression that Marchand was against letting Bruce go. He liked his approach and felt it was necessary to be hard on the guys. Conversely, DeBrusk seemed to have issues with Cassidy's tough love approach and is no longer here.
100% this. Marchand supported him, Bergy was quoted saying "Vegas will win the cup with Bruce", Pastrnak flourished into a superstar while he was coach, I doubt he had any problems -- same with McAvoy.

I suspect it was a combination of Carlo, Debrusk, Frederic, and Coyle who were getting constant criticism from Bruce, and management made a short-sighted decision.

It didn’t save him because he wasn’t Alumni. The fact Sweeney played for the team and was teammates with Neely gives him more rope.
This. It's infuriating, but playing for the Bruins and being best buds with Neely pays off. Heck, Dean Malkoc was reportedly the mastermind behind the 2015 1st round and he still has a job. Why? He played for the Bruins and was teammates with Sweeney and is his friend. For some reason, this organization is obsessed with people who used to play for the Bruins or are local.

Was thinking the exact same thing. Low hanging solution to test the waters of change and if it doesn't work out, canvas your other options.

Hunter is likely a similar scenario as Cassidy. Likely a better coach the 2nd time around in the NHL after some more trial and error and seasoning at a different level.

I wish Terry O'Reilly was 25 years younger.
Make it 45 years and have him lace them up.

No GM should be allowed to let a relatively successful head coach enter the season as a lame duck head coach and then be shocked when things turn out like this. It wasn't Jim Montgomery who created the chaotic and potentially problematic Swayman situation. Jim Montgomery didn't severely overpay the Charlies. Jim Montgomery didn't sign Elias Lindholm and Zadorov. Jim Montgomery isn't responsible for an organization bereft of young talent. It's time for a different direction in management but I don't have any faith in Charlie Jacobs figuring that out.

Not shortsighted. Cassidy have a massive number of flaws and his time had expired.

Issue is Sweeney caved and went too far in the player friendly coach model.

It's ridiculous how many coaches Cam and Don get to outlive in Boston. If this team misses the playoffs, they both need to be fired. It won't happen, since they both played for the Bruins and Sinden and the Jacobs family love them, but it should.
I think they may. It seems that all that matters is regular season success, and sellouts. Once that is no longer a given the Jacobs will find another pair of patsies to do their mediocre work for them.
