What could Habs get for
Montembault?
Just throwing this out there to see his trade return? If we could get good young player or first pick may move him. With Allen locked up long term and Primeau and Dobes in the system.

Monty has developed into decent NHL goalie. With .908% playing for bad team and behind defense with 5 rookies. Making league minimum this season and next.

Solid backup but goalies have no trade value (which is weird). A 3rd maybe, he's more valuable to the team than he is the market.

I like Montembeault as a goalie. The problem with moving a goalie at this time of year is that teams that are playoff bound almost always have pretty good goaltending to begin with and most teams that make it will plan on going all the way with their main No. 1 that they already have. The one exception this year I can think of is Pittsburgh who are kind of on the cusp of making or not making the playoffs (though my guess is they will) who've been missing Jarry for quite a while. I don't know what the prognosis on him is but there's a potential there.

Why would they trade him? They don't have much prospect depth at the position. While the league min is actually 750k this year and 775k next, his $1 million salary is still cheap for what he's brought.

If they got offered a 1st or even a 2nd they should take it. He is a useful backup now but a career .897 and 3.45 makes it more likely this is an outlier season. He's only had one season above .900 in the AHL and that was in 11 games that season.

Obviously but this is so far from reality it’s not even worth discussing.

They won't trade him. They are weak at goalie, very little depth. Primeau does not seem to be the answer- maybe Monty is. he has been real good this year on a bad team. Use that one year of contract he has next year to determine if maybe he is the answer.

You won't get anything for him anyway

Absolutely. They'd realistically get a 4th.

A guy performing well in the NHL and on a very low cap hit for one more season is worth more than a 4th rounder. Not worth a 1st (not likely) but you guys are exaggerating the low end value with your 4th rounder. Chances a 4th rounder turns into a NHL asset is very very low.

Allen is a decent 2A type and Monty is out performing him. He's not just some average backup at this stage.

It's a value thread. It's not likely a 1st but it's well north of just a 4th rounder. Habs won't even trade him for a 2nd rounder. We value him and the hard work he has put into earning his way.

Sabres should be absolutely desperate for a goalie right now. Can't in their right minds be waiting for either UPL or Levi to turn into something.

Personally, I'd be going after Demko if I were them.

Contrary to others, I think Monty could have a surprising value.

There's actually a shortage of good goalies in the NHL.

Stop % have been on a downward trend and plenty of teams would like to add a youngish, on an uptrend goalie like Montembeault.

He's actually on a very good 1 mil contract still running for next year.

If MTL put him on the market, there would be plenty of suitors and inevitably that would push his value up...

Vladar went for a 3rd a couple of seasons back in very similar situation (also had 2yrs left at league minimum).

Maybe a team gets desperate and offers a 2nd.

Mid round pick? He's a capable backup. Stole the game last night vs new jersey.
He's going to be 27 when next year starts, has never had a GAA under 3 and has a career save % under 900. 3 of his 4 AHL seasons were under 900 and 3 of the 4 were over 3.00. Goalies like him are put on waivers every year. 1 game against NJ last night doesn't change supply and demand.

There are only 2 waiver eligible G positions per team and he's a below average backup. There could be a team out there that thinks there's more to be had, but the price is going to be low. A mid-round pick is as much as you can expect.

Have you seen how he played this year? He had many games like the one against New Jersey last night. He has hurted our tank this year. Up to this point he has been better than Allen. I would rather trade Allen and keep Montembeault.

He's been on some pretty horrible teams as a professional goalie. He's been pretty good this year and at 26 is still quite young as far as goalie go.

Vejmelka is a few months older and his career numbers aren't really any better, but he seems to be in fairly high demand.
