I missed the whole Punk era. What was the beef between HHH and Punk?

Is Punk just a *****? Or was it something petty as it usually is with the company.

Triple H just never liked him. From Punk's first dark match with the company in 2006, Triple H reportedly buried him (HBK did too, although, HBK later saved Punk from getting fired). Triple H never liked Punk and Punk always felt like he was held down because of Triple H's personal feelings towards him.

Punk legitimately always resented Triple H for not putting him over in 2011.

HHH probably didn't like that an outsider to the company could come in with that much popularity and knew he couldn't be controlled.

I remember Survivor Series 2006 when Punk was on team DX and was insanely over. I hadn't been watching wrestling for about 5 years by that point and that was the first I'd ever heard of him and couldn't believe how popular he was.

Summer of Punk should have been the biggest angle WWE had in years but Triple H just had to insert himself into the damn thing and go over Punk for no reason. Biggest WTF is the end result of Punk's "pipebomb" was Triple H and 63-year-old Kevin Nash wrestling over a text message. It's great what Hunter is doing with NXT but no one should ever forget what a POS he was as a full-time wrestler. You gotta wonder how many guys weren't pushed (i.e. Booker T in 2003) or how many potentially great angles were nixed because Triple H put himself ahead of the product. I think it still bugs him to this day that no matter how much the WWE tries to rewrite history he never was on the level of Rock or Austin.

I legitimately hope Triple H can put any ego or grudge aside when he's in control of the entire company. Granted, this was 4 years ago and he seems to have changed a lot, but, yeah...

Yeah, it's very common for men to have a lot of introspection and really grow as a human being between the ages of 42-46.

HHH is a loser. Always was, always will be. I'm convinced he's a complete sociopath. The company won't be any better with him.

pretty much this, fact is hhh has had vinces ear for a while and many influential people were against punk, vince ultimately went with him but only to a point. he still positioned him as no.2 to cena, instead of ushering in a truly new era and positioning punk as the top guy.

punk like him or not is one of the few to ever outsell cena's merch and he did it without it being plastered everywhere and the company bending over backwards.

there is also the issue of WWE blocking punk from getting endorsement deals and potentially tv/movie roles, they just never fully backed him, maybe it's because of the fear of having a guy that's too big to lose

I remember that promo between Punk and HHH after Punk came back in 2011 where they were calling each other 'Phil' and 'Paul' in the middle of the ring. You could tell that there was no storyline point to them feuding and there was something more personal driving it. Punk was the obvious crowd favorite, but HHH was clearly trying to rip him apart in front of the audience. It just always felt to me like it was HHH trying to slow down Punk's momentum and it obviously worked.

HHH going over Punk at the next PPV and then Punk eating the pin when they tagged together the next month were just mind-boggling decisions. You have the young(ish) superstar with white-hot momentum who had just beat Cena in a 5 star match the previous month getting pinned after taking the finisher of the 40+ year old who had been retired for the past 18 months. You can't tell me that was done for any reason but to cool off Punk and put the focus elsewhere.

Even as an admitted Punk fan, I know he's no saint and probably had a fair amount to do with HHH's disdain toward him, but it just leaves me wondering how much money WWE left on the table for the sake of HHH's ego.

John Laurinaitus was the one who suggested Brock Lesnar do the SSP at Wrestlemania 19 that Lesnar talked about on the Austin podcast.

Yeah I miss the shield. There's been a pretty big dropoff in the product since they broke up IMO. Not that that's all of it. Other things like Punk leaving hurt as well.

Vince is missing brain cells if they don't push a SHIELD angle going into WM. Seth needs it, Roman needs it, Dean is already over, but it would give him something legit to do.

Keep Brock out of the title picture and have him do some mega legend match against the Rock (it will suck, but it will sell). Taker/Cena, and down we go.

Kind of would love to see Finn up feuding with KO for the IC strap.

And honestly, it would've been a great moment if it was executed properly. Angle was way too far out for that.

I want a Miz and Breeze tag team pls. Not Breeze being a stupid assistant or stunt double, but legit team. An A-lister and a model with sweet submissive Summer.

WWE should considering themselves lucky that the Colts and Patriots played on Sunday. Otherwise those ratings would look worse.

That rating is going to challenge the under 3 mil barrier by months end; the World Series could start by Monday depending on how the LCS shakes out, Monday Night Football will still be here and the NBA starts towards the end of the month.

World Series schedule is already set. There are no Monday games. Tue/Wed, Fri/Sat/Sun, Tue/Wed.

So, what's your overall enthusiasm level for Hell In A Cell?

Mine is nearly nonexistent.

Same. I think I watched the NOC fallout, missed all of the next few raws with the exception of one main event, and then watched the opening, and hour markers of the go home show. This is the least interesting build for a PPV in a long time.

I'm definitely interested in the Lesnar vs. Taker match. Going to be interesting to see how it is booked.

I'll be watching it Monday afternoon instead of live. Its either watch half of it, or just skim through the boring stuff and watch it all the next day
