He just needs to get rid of the puck a little quicker. He has a good shot but he hesitates to shoot a little too often and then misses that opportunity to score. If he is just a little more decisive he could put up some good numbers.

100% agree, he waits for the all too perfect opportunity and will stickhandle his way into oblivion in hopes to get it. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't yelling "hurry hard" as if it were curling on his goal. lol

But I hope he continues building - if those chances are there frequently, and my perception is that he's getting good looks game to game, the switch has to go off in his head at some point.

This is why the kids need a lot of minutes and not be jerked around.

This in spades. At one point last night in the 3rd, we had Laf-Chytil-Kakko Schneider-Jones and had the Kings absolutely pinned in their zone.

Kings end up scoring with some puck luck off a deflection on Kakko. I think we can all agree Igor stops that shot if not for that deflection.

Even with that happening and to your point, keep shoving the kids back in.

Whenever I see Kakko with the puck. I think of "Frankie, shoot the F***ing puck, from Shorey

I thought this was one of his better games 5v5.

I thought Panarin was great tbh.

Classic "did everything but finish" game.
The ppl complaining are 'xGF hrrrdrrr's who only look at goals, points and wins (which of course matter).

Back to our baseball analogies, hitting tons of high exit velo line drives that happen to be at ppl is the same as swinging bunts- actually the bunts are better if they happen to get the guy on base and definitely is sustainable to continue winning (sarcasm).

Not worth it to argue, the response would be 'well did he get a 5 on 5 point or not'

I'm so sorry that I brought up baseball analogies...

But, in all seriousness, it's easy to see when he's not hesitant to venture into the greasier areas and satisfied with attempting treys (baskeball, uh oh) from downtown.

Can say the same about Zib. Other than that 150 foot pass to Kreider, he was awful tonight.

Actually was the opposite. Zibanejad was aggressive and heavy on the forecheck. It was just a low event kind of game. Danault has a tendency to do that to opposing lines.

Outside of a horrendous first 20 minutes for the whole team, the game was pretty even. LA is a good team. Feel like they are a quantity over quality team when it comes to shots. Vally kind of sums that up in his postgame tweet:

25 low percentage chances. Shooting just to shoot the puck. Not to mention that 3rd goal was just as lucky as Kreider scoring from that ridiculous angle (which Petersen probably wants back).

I wasn't negative at all toward him tonight or ever actually, but at some point he really needs to start converting his chances.

I'm actually impressed with how much he's improved his skating. He's still not a speed demon, but it's obvious he's really worked hard on his stride.
By all rights, he should have had 2. The diving stop with the glove was insane.
Maybe he should go see a witch doctor or go see Tony Robbins.

yea, he's been all about pulling up and look for cross ice trailers, which is fine from time to time.

I'm concerned his lack of foot speed has gotten a tad worse and he knows that taking it to the net or behind the net will end up in him getting closed off and crunched off the puck Laf style.

Not the way I & many of us in the GDT saw it. Zib & "heavy" on the forecheck are mutually exclusive & truthfully he was pretty invisible for most of this game....his 5v5 play has been extremely lacking all season.

Thanks for posting the Vally stats, love to see them, especially when I missed the game. I saw the shots total and was wondering if the scoring chances (game within the game) was as bad as they made it seem.

Or someone like Kreider needs to bring in a bucket of KFC.

People do close in quickly on him nowadays, but he's just too uber-talented to throw his hands up and be frustrated. The pull-ups are likely from trying to deke the person closing in. He can play a tight-quarters game with his arsenal of skills and vision and still be good. He needs to be willing to engage in that type of play.

Of course they find a way to win one of their worst efforts of the season.

All 4 of their goals were some form of puck luck / iffy goaltending, the likes of which they had not been getting in so many other games this season where they were the clear better team. Anyone still not appreciating the 'puck luck' / shooting % regression argument?

Hopefully no one in the org is under the illusion that last night was actually a good game. Could just see "dump and chase" becoming then new template for the team. Good luck with that.

Yea first was bad but according to high and medium danger scoring chances it definitely wasn't our worst showing of the year.

All that puck possession in the 2nd and 3rd period really sucked, didnt it? Cant imagine a worse effort by them in those periods, right? Kakko's goal was soooooo lucky....imagine being lucky enough to knock in a rebound from a prime scoring area, and being where he is supposed to be.

How can anyone take anything positive from that game last night? Inconceivable....like Iocane powder

He actually created a ton of chances tonight. Should’ve scored a couple goals himself. The puck luck isn’t on his side right now.
He was great tonight. Still hesitates way too much to get the puck off.

BUT One night doesn't erase the past couple weeks. He needs to be this guy nearly every single game. He's getting paid $11.6M. Past 10 games he has 2 points at 5v5. That's a major problem. If Panarin isn't one of the best players on the ice, we wont win anything of value.

Mika scored a goal at even strength 1 game.... out of 20.... That's inexcusable for our #1

Our 2 'leaders' on offense have done very little at even strength. The onus should be on them.

I honestly still think the coaches give them too much leeway. They need to be pushed.

They absolutely thought it was a great comeback effort that speaks to the character of this team and we shouldn’t change a thing and hence we should keep scratching a top 10 pick who spent his last game on the 2nd line & got a point but will now be a healthy scratch 4 straight games because he got hurt
