The guy with 2 broken arms? Yeah, pretty brutal. He’s 23 now not 19.

Your double-standard is funny. On the one hand you berate the habs for not signing Money and use Dach instead, then complain about two broken arms, as he's just a dozen games in since his return, yet seem completely oblivious of the fact Money spent a long time on LTIR and his career could've ended.

Also worthy of note: not a single player drafted between 2022-2024 is carrying their team right now. So it's not like it's a matter of picking the right person.

The Hawks, Sharks, Ducks all still suck despite having lottery picks in the same timeframe as the habs.

Wright, Bedard, Celebrini, Carlson, Michkov, Smith...none of these guys are bringing their teams out of the lottery pack. Nemec, Cooley were part of teams tanking long before 2022.

To think, the most used among all of them is 62nd pick Lane Hutson!

Grand total of 2 players drafted by Hugo are playing on the team right now. Those two are a top line winger and a top pairing defenseman for us.

And as much as you want to build a team out of a rebuild over night it doesn't happen that way. The summer sim doesn't pop Beck from a 69 overall to an 82 overall and all of the sudden you're competitive.

Especially when you're still riding out nearly 20 million of salary cap on depth forwards that Bergevin bought and a 10 million dollar contract for Price due to a career ending injury.

I’m only comparing output, their stories change nothing to their actual performance. I thought Monahan was awesome as a hab. Dach looks done and all we hear is how he’s a core piece. Let him earn it and trade for real players until then.

Yes it does. You can dismiss reality all you want, but a 23 years old who's coming back from missing a whole season is gonna take time to gain back his form and confidence. Look at Caufield. It took him 15 months after surgery to get his shot and confidence back.

"Only comparing output" is just an excuse to whine, while ignoring Monahan's own history and risk of injury, while also ignoring Dach has only 10 games played since coming back from injury.

No shit.

Ridiculous. Stop acting like every player immediately finds his synchronicity after missing a whole year.

and all we hear is how he’s a core piece.

What people say on this forum doesn't define reality nor has it any bearing on Dach. Pointless comment.

And do the same stupid mistake Calgary did with Monahan. Just brilliant.

Well, it's reality.. Dach (like Money) has a propensity to get season ending injuries.. i for one, will never count Dach as a staple 2C. I have him as a 2Winger, at best 3C.

What reality ? He wasn't brutal at center before the injury. Posters here aren't even giving him 10 games. It'll be a difficult season for him, which isn't unexpected. It isn't indicative of what he'll be in the future. Monahan had chronic hip and groin injuries. Dach has had unrelated freak injuries.

While not the same situation, the conversation this time last year was around how awful Slafkovsky is and what a disaster it was not taking Cooley.

Patience isn't a strong suit for this fanbase and more people are, fairly and unfairly, holding the team to a higher standard than in seasons past in the rebuild.

Oh ffs.. just watch him.. hes not a 2c. Whether you want to blame the injury or not, he's far from a Centre in the NHL..

I don’t want Dach gone anymore than I want him in the top 6; the minors used to be where a guy got his bearings. Or 4th line and some special teams… We keep over-hyping up mid players I feel.

I’m crossing Monahan and his fate here because the contrast triggered me this morning. Dach will never have Money’s iq I don’t believe so the comparison is sketchy and they won’t look the same coming back from injury… I’m happy for Monahan.

And Dach was an absolute beast at center last night without the Newhook Armia duo sinking him to the bottom of the ocean.

We got what we needed from Monahan and keeping him on that contract would have been conduct detrimental to the franchise. The relationship worked out for both parties. He got a contract and term that he wouldn't have gotten if we didn't help give him that opportunity on our rebuilding roster.

This is why I was amused at the people on here who were giddy before the season, thinking the Habs were definitely making the playoffs due to the return of Dach and the addition of Laine. Both were coming back from long-term absences, and expecting an immediate return to top form for both was quite unrealistic, IMO. What we are seeing with Dach is more the norm, and we will probably see something similar with Laine -- assuming he actually makes it through the season once he gets back in the lineup.

Agreed

Here's hoping all our core players will be healthy to start next season.

I think it was very few people who thought that.. I'm pretty sure there was a poll and I don't remember the 'will make the playoffs' group was very high on the chart.

I don't remember the poll, but there were some overly optimistic posts in the threads regarding the Laine acquisition. It may have been just a few people posting multiple times, though.
