I thought he would be a bargain at 5.5M. The question is about how good he'll be in years 4 and 5 of his deal, when we're ready to be competitive.
I no longer believe in or have patience for the statement “when we are ready to be competitive”. It’s like saying “tune in in 5 years for a few games for that magic switch that turns the same crappy players into contenders because theory from 5 years ago says it’s time”.

I’m going to eventually tune out again real soon, and having Monahan instead of Dach at center may have made quite a difference there.

Build a real hockey team, Hugo.

When you suck for a while, if you have good armature and pro scouts, the hope is not to have the same crappy players in 5 years.

You're not excited about Demidov? Hage? Prime Slaf? Prime Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Guhle, Hutson, Mailloux, Struble, Xhekaj, Reinbacher, Fowler? And we should have a good 1st this year, two early 2nds, and the Florida 1st. HuGo have done well packaging late 1sts.

I’ll be excited when I get to see them play and have an impact against nhl players. Wish there was a newsletter I could subscribe to for if and when that happens. Reading hf is more entertaining than watching for sure.

Holy shit people, the team has had 3 drafts since they took over. The forward pipeline was Suzuki and Caufield.

This team needs so many pieces that wont be addressed in just three drafts. It is going to take time.
And much more than drafting and Crave series. Actual nhl players would be a good step.

I'm excited for the new lines. I want to see if the duos can find their 3rd wheel:
Cc- suzy
Salf - Dach
Armia - Newhook

And who from among Kapanen, Heineman, Dvo, Roy, Laine, and RHP will be best.

Some good future pieces in that bunch to watch develop, hopefully.

Out of the 3 top picks one is in the KHL and looiking very good but not helping our team, another one is injured and did not have the time to showcase his skills (or lack of?) and the other one is in the NHL and so far is the top scorer of his draft but still to young to be in his prime. All the other picks were lower and nobody should expect a lower pick to be ready to make a difference before 22 (4 years after the draft and so far it's been 3 years since the first draft so too soon for all of those to help). People really are unreasonable.

Also worthy of note: not a single player drafted between 2022-2024 is carrying their team right now. So it's not like it's a matter of picking the right person.

The Hawks, Sharks, Ducks all still suck despite having lottery picks in the same timeframe as the habs.

Wright, Bedard, Celebrini, Carlson, Michkov, Smith...none of these guys are bringing their teams out of the lottery pack. Nemec, Cooley were part of teams tanking long before 2022.

Good point.

So far Slafkovski and Cooley are the two best players of the first draft. All the other guys are either not in the NHL or struggling. Slaf and Cooley for now are pretty much equal and they are both valuable player one is a center and the other a big winger.

The only players in the 2nd draft that are producing at a .5ppg pace or better with a sample size of more than 40 games are Bedard, Fantilli and Carlsson and none of them were avalaible when we drafted. There's only 5 players of that draft with 10+ NHL games. Benson is struggling a bit atm. You can make a case for Michkov but the sample size is so small.

Only one player of the 3rd draft is playing in the NHL and this is Celebrini the 1st overall pick. All the others are not in the NHL atm.
