Jesus Christ.

It’s actually pathetic that it was Ceci.

I didn’t even realize it was indeed Cody Ceci who scored the game winner. I posted that 20 minutes before the end of regulation.

That was the most painful Nostradamus moment I’ve had that can remember.
You jinxed it! :(

They're somewhere in between this stretch and the one right before Christmas, can't get too high or low on a team due to a recent stretch. If they can find a happy medium, they'll be a tough out granted Fitz makes the right moves and we don't get headcase Markstrom in April. A decent Markstrom is better than most of the playoff goalies to begin with anyway.
I mean...I still think that's a team not ready to make a long playoff run lol

As of now I do think the 22-23 team was better. They didn't play as structured but statistically were also at the top of the league defensively and they were dominant 5v5 unlike this one.

I feel like a guy like Granlund has to be a priority to add. Being able to pop him into a 3c role and letting Haula sit on the 4th line would be amazing. Really want a guy who can push some offense in the bottom 6 and maybe help unlock Mercer a bit
My Sharks buddy who took us to the game thought Granlund is the perfect priority fit for us. Sharks need everything (except 1C and goalie). Askarov is a character.

Btw. Got a good look at Brendan Dillon smushing a Shark.

I think we took a good chunk of really good chemistry, speed, and depth away by getting rid of guys like Zetterlund and Boqvist + losing "that guy" because he turned out to be a turd off the ice.

Fitz was forced to rehaul the D and it took a whole season gone to do it. It's looking like we are in the same boat now with the forwards.

xG 22-23: 56.0%
xG 24-25: 55.3%

That .7% really gets us to dominant huh.

This team has a better chance to go farther because boatracing teams is hard to do in the playoffs.

Maybe not

I just wanted to get in this year

If we go out early I’m confident we’ll see a bottom 6 revamping like we saw with the defense last offseason.

Either way I’m pretty sure you’re gonna see a lot of changes down there. I think all the UFA’s down there will walk and the only guys I can envision here next year are Mercer and Cotter. And probably MacDermid, who isn’t an every nighter anyway.

And I can totally see a scenario where Mercer is gone, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Lazar and Bastian are good for right now, but does anyone really wanna give either of them term or a raise over what they’re making now?

Tatar is probably over to Europe or retires.

I already told you I’m sure Haula is out. Unless they can find a way to dump Palat (much harder) and/or Dougie and are like “Yeah, we got enough space. Haula is fine for the 4C in what may be the last year of his NHL career”.

That's ignoring what Fitz does at the deadline or adding reinforcements, they'll probably add talent. Judging a team by a 4 game stretch is laughable. Cup Champs last year lost to the Devils, Red Wings, Ducks and Wild in January, shit happens. Palat isn't as useless as he is and finishes that chance with 2:30 left, they win this game. If they actually don't decide to take the Ducks lightly in the 2nd/3rd, they probably win that game and it took the last 2 mins combined with a classic Marky softy to lose that game. Got robbed one of the worst goalie interference calls in NHL history v LAK or that game would be 1-1 going into the third. I'm usually the one who'll rip into this team with no regard but they've shown way more good than bad imo to just lambast into pieces. That being said, they need to get their heads out of their asses the last 2 games on this road trip in Seattle/NYR

I mean, the shots and Corsi tell a very similar story - the 22-23 Devils had a month-long run of being incredible territorially and the rest was just fine. Guess what - this team also had a month-long run of being incredible territorially and the rest is just fine.

22-23 Devils probably had the better regular season team, this team is probably better for the playoffs.

I was so caught up in the emotion that I didn’t even catch who it was.

This is the worst I’ve felt after a loss this season. I probably wouldn’t have been so pissed if the game winner was scored with 7 or 10 minutes left, which is probably how much time was left when I made that post. We certainly deserved to lose earlier in the game, but the fact it came with 30 seconds left was hard to take.

I don't get how their pre Christmas break games aren't making you step of the ledge a little bit then. That was 90's Devils esque when they were winning Cups. These losses suck ass but in the long run if Fitz makes the moves, they'll just be games we laugh about or look back on how the f*** that happened

lol That's funny because this is likely the least emotional I've been after a loss all year.

Meh, if anything, it gives them something to be pissed about till Monday v Seattle not even salvaging a point. But we've been saying that for the past few games, maybe they are just waiting for Fitz to do something at this rate lol

I just don't see it. That team was average for a stretch of a few weeks but even during that "lull" they were far more consistent than this squad.

Sure their defensive structure they have now is better suited for the playoffs. but you still need to score to win as well.

Seattle is a must, must, must win.

Another humpty team.

Unfortunately, today was a must win and two games on this trip were against the ultimate humpty teams.

Still got one more against Chicago somewhere in there.

I just don't buy that. Sure defensively they're better but this team is so reliant on the PP to score and the depth doesn't exist.

That team was going nowhere with Vitek/Schmid in net, lol. And that's coming from the guy who shits/trolls on Markstrom on every softie he gives up like today. Plus 22/23 was too reliant on the rush for my liking which is why Carolina proceeded to body them as bad as they did. Carolina could very well body this team again in April but it'll be for a different reason this time

How should we compare a team where we have 100% of the data to a team that we have at worst around 50%? There are going to be peaks and valleys but this team is comparable to that one so far by most measures.

You're just naturally inclined to think that the past is better. You're just not correct about this - the numbers tell a different story.

What's clear is that this team has been getting somewhat unlucky in close games, whereas that team got extremely lucky in close games for a month. So that's part of why you are remembering differently.

I choose to believe this is the low point of the season and it's all up from here

All of the doom and gloom is expected. But anyone who didn’t think a skid was bound to happen is delusional. It’s ironic that they easily could have won the games all of these games too, and they actually played their best against CAR and LAK. Sure, losing to bottom feeders sucks and is humbling, but it happens to every cup winning team, every year.
