Allen ended up costing us a 3rd instead of a 2nd. There is your glass is half full moment for the day. May there be others.

The disaster against Winnipeg had me ready to just get more focused on baseball starting up, but these last two games have been really refreshing. While people screaming "SHOOT, SHOOOOOT!" during power plays and whatnot is usually really obnoxious, it was impossible not to notice a few weeks ago when the ESPN broadcast (I think it was them, at least) said during a Devils power play that "the Devils are apparently trying to just pass the puck into the net" or something to that effect. This team has had a bad habit over the last couple years of trying too hard for the 'perfect play' or overpassing, when the answer sometimes is to just get toward the net and see what happens.

Lo and behold, these games against the Wild really hinged on the team being able to get bodies near the crease, skate hard toward the goalie, clean up loose change, etc. If they can really harness that and if Markstrom is really getting sharp again after clearly being off his game post-injury, then they absolutely would stand a chance against the Canes in round one.

I'd rather those not be "ifs" right now, but hey, that's better than where my mindset was about a week ago.

I just wish they gave up a third-round pick rather than a second-round pick for him. We need those second-rounders.

It’s annoying that we’re giving them the better of the two non-NJD 2nds. Edmonton’s 2nd is currently #54 while Winnipeg’s is #64.

Considering Traff was also included (also very annoying lol), it should have been the Winnipeg 2nd. But whatever.

This deadline was expensive. Still, NJ seems to have righted the ship for now and the playoffs are more important than the pick or Traff. Both Dumoluin and Glass have helped so it's hard to be too disappointed.

It was a fun game live. The 2 goals called back were annoying but it was a close back and forth game. It's great to see them cduise to s shootout victory as well. Cotter and Bratt made it look easy on their goals. Markstrom had a good night too.

Would be nice to see how both teams would have done with a fully healthy lineup. The Wild are not the same without Kaprizov and Eriksson Ek in the lineup but the Devils are missing more than they are and still managed to beat them twice...

So I'm a big Dillon supporter. He's clearly a great locker room guy and I think he gets a bit of a bad rap in a lot of ways. But hear me out. Do you consider Dumoulin over Dillon next year with Siegs and Luke occupying the other spots?

I'm sure the answer is no. But I like Dumoulin a lot, and am kind of bummed that he will likely be elsewhere next year.

I really don’t want Dumoulin at Dillon’s current price.

But I would rather have Dumoulin for 2 more years at $3-$3.2 million per (he’s only getting $3.150 this year, at least his cap hit is) than Dillon for two more years at $4 million. If that’s possible.

I don't think that's in the cards. NJ made the commitment to Dillon and I recall someone posting that he has trade protection.

Unfortunately, I know it probably isn't in the cards. And I would probably be annoyed at Dumoulin soon enough, but I feel he's better than Dillon at this point.

Dillon is good at laying guys out, that's something Dumoulin can't do, at least not that effectively. But I think otherwise that Dillon just isn't that good of a defenseman anymore and at worst he's considerably overpaid for what he'll bring the next two years.

Dillon certainly is not as consistent. He's prone to bone headed plays. When he plays well he can be something of a force though. He does control the front of the crease and as much as it should not be the case, dropping the gloves matters to some extent and I'd rather have Dilon in the lineup than MacDermid. I've never seen such a tough guy so passive.

Fortunately, I've forgotten MacDermid is still on this team.

Unfortunately, we'll all be reminded that he still is come Saturday.

Isn't Rempe out injured? If Rempe is out I don't see MacDermid playing.
Honestly, I didn't even know this.

The only thing I noticed in their last game was how good their offense looked against the great Alexandar Georgiev and the San Jose Sharks having another 6+ goal against game.

The Rangers just added Gabe Perrault from Boston College. He's a Hughes type player. Smaller but very skilled. Right now he's a pass first player most likely in the NHL but he's quite talented. I'm a lot more worried about his impact on the game than Rempe's. I am glad this won't be a must win game for NJ so they can just play a game without the added misery of do or die against the Rangers.

He's a better Toffoli, better playmaker than Toffoli but his skating is going to hamper him a LOT at the beginning + sick shot tho

Health, keeping Glass, and adding another two forwards, one a center, and I think this team will be very dangerous next year.

The forward depth and the injuries have hurt their chances to do damage in the playoffs. The depth is fixable.

Maybe Gritz can be one of those wingers.

They have the D, which i think only gets better as the young guys mature, and we have goalies now.
I don’t think two forwards is enough to make them truly dangerous. They need someone to replace Palat on the top line. They need someone to replace Mercer on the second line since he’s unreliable in that role. They need a 3C (no not Cody Glass, he should be a very good 4C for us if can even stay healthy). Probably another couple of guys to round out the bottom six but that’s not the hard part. Point is it’s definitely more than just two forwards that are needed.
