Luke in the last 10 games 2 goals 10 assists 12 points.

This might be slightly biased, but I honestly believe that Luke will be the best Hughes brother.

I know Quinn is insanely good and already has an award, but Luke is really really special.

Jack has the most natural talent, but Luke has the best brain for the game. He's already turning into a two-way demon and he's doing it at 21 with a banged up groin. Kid is going to be a superstar.

Size can be overrated, but Luke has a great frame too. Long reach, 6'2". He's a horse. He has physical traits that his brothers will never have.

Looking at both replays of the disallowed goals holy cow I’m not sure either should have been called back. Looked like puck was over on the back, and the puck was still over the blue line in OT - isn’t there some imaginary plane where the puck has to come completely over ?

I mean how can you not be proud of this team? Down 2 top-4 d men, one of the best centers in the league, their best TDL acquisition…to get 2 goals called back and still win in the shootout is such a foreign concept to us, but their best current players have stepped up in a huge way. Bratt imposing himself physically is just beautiful, Nico eating impossible minutes and assignments while still contributing offense, Timo playing like a massive pain in the ass, Marky looking healthy, Luke imposing himself offensively and still playing solid defensively, Dumo filling in admirably for Siegs, etc.

Regardless of what happens against CAR, the fact that they’re getting playoff experience is crucial.

From Jan 1st to Jack's injury we were 9-10-3 for 21 points - 26th in the league during that span.

Since Jack's injury we are 7-6-1 for 15 points - tied with Toronto for 13th best in the league over that span. Without Jack, Dougie, and Siege.

If it weren't for Kovacevic's two colossal f***ups against Dallas and Calgary we're looking at 7-4-3 or possibly even 8-4-2.

Bratt is tied for 4th in the league in points, and Nico is tied for 3rd in the league in goals and tied for 10th in points since then. Luke is 2nd in points among defensemen and tied for 17th in total points among all skaters since Jack went down.

I actually think this team is jelling, is finding some synergy and a new identity here at the end - a physical style of play and more of a forecheck and crash the net style than they have had this year. A kind of we are all equal team style of play - I like dropping Palat and Tatar to the 4th line. Finally some depth. With this goaltending I will not be surprised if they make a run in the playoffs. It’s in effect a different team without Jack Hughes. Luke is suddenly dialing it up too.

This maybe feels like the Devils going into that 2013 (was that the year?) end of season when they ran to the finals?

Are we going on a hot streak now at just the right time? Next Saturday against the Rangers will tell us a lot.

Anything can happen in Jersey.

Hasn’t Jack and/or Quinn made comments to that effect about Luke being the most talented of the three of them?

The puck on the back was in imo based on the crossbar itself (others disagree based on the ice level goal line parallax view) but the offsides was over the line which replayed showed.

Thinking of the puck on the back, and this isn’t a new thought, but NHL already has sensors in the puck, so it seems like there is a simple solution for plays like this.

Camera at any fixed location on the roof that is calibrated to know exactly where the goal line is, this can be calibrated before the season. This camera knows where the line is even if a goalie or players are blocking the view.

The puck already has sensors in it, so you can have a sensor that can know everything about puck position and orientation without needing to visually see the puck.

Combine that camera’s line knowledge and those sensor’s puck knowledge and you can make a 3-d replication of where the puck is relative to the goal line without even having a view of the puck or goal line. This would work for things like the puck being in the goalies glove too.

This seems pretty simple to set up with today’s technology so I’m not sure why they haven’t.

A lot of leagues in soccer already use goal line technology and it works really well.

I just wish they gave up a third-round pick rather than a second-round pick for him. We need those second-rounders.

That's really kind of splitting hairs. Our 3rd round pick at the time of the deadline was tied to the Jake Allen condition, and due to Markstrom's injury, we couldn't move that or our own 2nd round pick because it technically wasn't a given whether Allen would meet the start requirement or not at the time.

We had 3 second round picks to work with this year, ours, Edmonton's and Winnipeg's. The pick we traded will be the higher of Winnipeg's or Edmonton's depending on where they finish. It's very likely that pick is closer to a 3rd round pick in value anyway because both of those teams could very easily end up in the conference finals or SCF. And from all I've read, this is a weaker draft class than normal.

We still have 2 2nds and 1 3rd from the Vegas trade for Cotter, we're fine even if we deem we overpaid for Dumoulin.
