Proposal: MN-NYI

I guess I hadn’t really considered Horvat. How is his game going? It looks like hi production has dropped quite a bit. Is that because of his play or the talent around him?
He had a bit of a down shooting % year. Production being down is nearly all PP related. NYI really had a difficult time with PP entries, made a lot worse with Barzal's injuries. When you look at even strength production, shots/attempts, possession stats, etc they're either in line for his career or else show improvement. The plan was a line of Duclair-Horvat-Barzal, but that really never happened because of Duclair's injuries (which imo he never really recovered from), and then Barzal's injury. The sh % was down for the same reason PP goals were down - fewer looks in the slot.

The eye test tells me he's had no physical dropoff at all. But like most 25-30 goal scorers, he's a bit streaky. I don't see that changing. But he can also do a bit of everything, including being a big bro who isn't a fighter, but can mix it up to protect his teammates. Not only is he fast, but while he's really more of a top end #2C, he can handle 20 minutes per night. He's that kind of athlete. I think he's gonna continue aging well. But he controls his destination.

Low key what Nelson's actual value was... He's trash. Shout out to Colorado for their embarrassing overpayment.
Nelson's actual value was what he received, which is what we all kept telling you for months. I understand not wanting to pay it, but just because you don't doesn't mean another team won't. A player's value is determined by the team willing to give the most, because that is what they always receive.

I also think boiling down Nelson's value to a 6 week stint on a new team for the first time in his career is probably unwise. We just saw Rantanen look pedestrian for a few weeks before finding his footing with Dallas. It happens. If Nelson's price has gone down at all because of his Colorado tenure, a contender would be wise to pick him up as someone who can be their 3C or top 6 winger, but be able to move up the lineup as injuries hit.

What a load of bullshit. You screwed Colorado; that wasn’t his value.
So you think Colorado just stepped up and offered 5x more than any other team? GMs don't do their job in a vacuum.

His value was what we said it was - pretty sure I remember pitching something like a 2026 first and Ohgren with you all which is basically the exact value he received. You were wrong.

I don't get this logic from my fellow Wild fans. I bet you a dollar that Florida's average age of players last year were around 30 years old
Florida was 27.87 last year and 29.24 this season. Minnesota wasn’t far with 27.78 last year and 29.74 this year. Worrying about a top 6 center who at 30 is still a quality top 6 center isn’t smart. So basically Florida and Minnesota aged at almost identical rates but Minnesota is still a weaker team.

Yes, I think you conned the Avalanche. They massively overpaid for what they got in return.

Ohgren+2026 1st would have been HORRENDOUS for Minnesota.

But Minnesota had 14M of handcuffs so no doubt Florida would be deeper.

The point isn't conning someone or not, it's the value of a player at a certain time.

We pointed to past deadline deals and chatter from insiders, and over multiple threads you and the brain and the guy from scrubs had an absolute conniption when we suggested what proper compensation from MN would look like. And you all turned out to be 100% wrong.

Being wrong isn't the end of the world or anything, it's a chance to learn. Next year if you're in a position to trade for the top C available at the deadline you'll be able to prepare yourself for what the cost will be.

If I remember correctly, we said you wouldn't get that from us, and he wouldn't be worth it, and were correct on both counts. At least I did.

Do you think Colorado fans are happy with what they paid? Take the homer goggles off. That trade was horrible for Colorado.

Once again, not the point lol. I guess I also derailed the thread so anyway...

yes we will take Rossi for Horvat if he waives his NMC after building a house and getting sued by the county for it because it was too close to the water or some dumb zoning thing
