Von Wagenen is running this team like Phil Esposito ran the Rangers. He's a used car salesman/jerk boyfriend or husband of the main character's love interest in a movie.

How do you go from trading away all your pitchers for prospects to trading away prospects for a now pitcher?
If you think you can sign him and make him part of your future, and that he is a better option in that regard than Wheeler, that seems like a reasonable play. You can recoup some of that from Wheeler. Obviously not both guys, but maybe a guy like SWR. So if you were to do that, you've basically traded Kay to go from Wheeler to Stroman, which I would do every day. He doesn't need to be a now pitcher, particularly given how he generates outs, I would argue.

Good point--taking Stroman out of play for the rest of the league probably makes your guys more valuable. Hadn't thought of that, but it's an interesting angle.
It also could be that Brodie is delusional, isn't going to trade either of them and is gunning for the wild card, though.

I don't think I'd trade him baring some deal you can't pass up. If you can go into next year with a DeGrom Syndergaard Wheeler Stroman Matz rotation that is a great pitching rotation. Obviously Wheeler is in a bit of flux due to his contract status. They've already been an above average offense this year despite getting little from Cano, nothing from Cespedes, little from Nimmo etc. I'm willing to bring back a similar team and assume the bullpen won't be nearly as bad next season. Would certainly be nice to fix up the defense though.

Unless Nimmo somehow becomes a plus defensive CF or moving Rosario out there solves that position, they'll be looking outside the organization for their CF.

Don't think there is a free agent CF that will be able to help them this offseason.

They'll be trading for a CF. I really think any pitcher they move has a CF attached to it or prospects that will allow a move for a CF.

Should flip Stroman now, trade Syndergaard, trade Wheeler and trade Díaz. Do what the Rangers did b/c this Mets team stinks.

Brodie has no clue. He is a sports agent with no experience. He values no prospects except maybe his own. He threw away Kelenic and Dunn for garbage. Hell he almost included McNeil in the Cano deal lol. Our farm system is getting destroyed and our major league team is flawed defensively and in the bullpen

The Cano trade was atrocious. The gift for a miserable season was being in position to draft Kelenic. Then trade him for a 38 year old with a massive contract? Who does that? Diaz? You go get the closer when the team is closer to winning IMO.

It’s a hopeless organization, kinda like the Redskins. No matter what, the owner will screw it up IMO.

Finding a productive everyday CF'er is hard, obviously.

For example, there are just 5 qualified CF'ers in the entire league who are average or better hitters per wRC+ this season. Mike Trout, Ramon Laureano, Starling Marte, Acuna Jr and Byron Buxton.

Of course CF is a premium position so you'll sacrifice some offense there. Even finding an everyday CF'er who's 10% worse than league average (90 wRC+) is pretty tough. Going to 90, that list only adds Jacoby Jones who's the worst defender of qualified CF'ers.

Solving CF for the Mets will be pretty tough.

He's a guy who I could see turning his career around like Aaron Hicks. But by no means would (should) he headline a deal for Thor, he would be a throwin in piece if anything. But Padres are in the same position as the Mets in terms of CF. Hunter Renfroe/Will Myers/Franmil Reyes cannot play CF everyday....

Every time Urshella makes an error the announcers say "oh, gold glove caliber defender, you don't see that often" but he's like...really not that good defensively?
