Twins are posers... they have a pretty good team but definitely not championship quality in any way.

I know we didn't win yet, but I can't seem them coming back against this line up and facing Severino

Trying not to think about the next matchup until it actually happens

Hoping Sevy and co can finish the series in game 3, and that the Rays take the Astros to at least a game 5.

Saw a lot of Cole things in the other thread and did not have a chance to weigh in. Unfortunately my view is different from others. They will not be able to afford him. Based on his year, he will break the record for a pitcher. Which means well over $200m. In 3 years, the Yankees will have to pay Judge at least $300m. I cannot see in three year's time, two players who have $300m and one that will have $225-$250. And Torres will be staring at a $300m contract as well before all of these expire.

Same way every one was howling for Machado and/or Harper and I maintained that they cannot afford them. No difference here. Not that I would not LOVE Cole to be on this team. For better or worse, I think that the Yankees will sign their own players to big dollars and allow the big fish to go by. Otherwise, they will be looking to trade a Torres the same way that the Red Sox are biting themselves at the elbows and the thought of trading Betts this year.

Another reason why trading for Stanton was a bad move. Cole would be infinitely more valuable to this roster.

They can find other ways to clear money.

They may also go into “I don’t give a f***” mode pretty soon, especially if they don’t win this year.

Cole would be MUCH more a need than Harper/Machado were. Big difference there.

I think the Yankees will at least make more an effort to get Cole than they did those players, at the very least.
Of course they will inquire. And of course he will NOT sign with them as he WILL sign a record deal with another team.

Again, it's not like I do not want him. But I just cannot see how this can happen realistically. Which is why I am not simply saying "just trade Stanton". That is not realistic.

Yankees could afford Cole if they really want him. They may have to deal the luxury tax for just a year. Tanaka, Ellsbury, come off after 20'.

Stanton contract isn't keeping them from getting Cole. Didn't keep them from offering 5/100 to Corbin. It's the Yankees change in philosophy in not overspending for a player. Which is a losing proposition.imo. Players are not taking significantly less. If they want Cole or any top FA, they're going to have to be within 10 million of the other team's offer.

The Stanton trade is pretty strange. IF you have a budget, why make that trade? You already have a younger, cheaper, better version of him in Aaron Judge.

Couldn't agree more.

Not really. Not if you want to keep your core together. Going to $100m is not quite the same as going to well over $200. Sure Tanaka and Ellsbury come off. But something else goes on. That within the life of the contract, you will already have $300 in Stanton and at least another $300 in Judge, with Torres looming. That does not even take Sanchez into consideration

Want to avoid the situation that the Red Sox are facing by having to trade Betts? Then you cannot sign Cole to the record deal that he is going to get.

I don't think the Yankees are paying Judge 300 mil. By the time he's a FA, he will be 31. By then the Dominican Mike Trout will be the next big thing (at least they hope and I think he will be).

Cashman should be looking to give Torres a contract this off season. Braves did it with Acuna. Sanchez too.

Okay, they pass on Cole. They better develop Davie Garcia and some of the other kids that are close.

Ok, if not $300, it will be the per dollar equivalent for the year. The point being is that the luxury hit will remain the same. If Judge continues to do what he has been doing, they are not going to let him go nor is he going to be cheap.

Completely agree on the other points, though. They need to try to lock up Torres as soon as possible and spend a lot on pitching developing.

Judge is in his 1st arbitration year right? Mookie Betts got $20 million in his second.

You give Judge what he asks for and cross every other bridge later.

The dude paced for an 8.5 WAR over 162 and many would say he didn't even have his A season.

If he's not a generational talent, he's close to it.

Despite his unhappiness ADA makes more than Aaron Judge this year.
