He was always a liability in big games, fortunately there was one major exception to that in the 2008 World Series but he otherwise tended to struggle when he was needed most. The Mets regularly abused him from 2006-2009. He was pretty much the only guy on those teams that didn’t seem to own the Mets

Well as usually you are wrong. Hamels was bad throughout 2009 postseason. He also made 1 bad start in 2016. Apart from 1 bad postseason run and 1 bad start, he's been very good. His postseason ERA is identical to his regular season ERA.

Hamels has another year at $20 million and he hasn't been good since he was in Philly.

Hamels needs to pitch 200 innings in 2018 and 400 innings combined in 17+18 for that 2019 option to kick in. He's not reaching those totals.

We have better pitchers in minors than Britton.

Acquiring big name bullpen arm makes zero sense unless they're getting them for pennies.

Britton is really good. Have you forgotten how good he was in 2016? This year he's coming back from an injury.

Why would the Orioles trade Britton today?

Shouldn't they wait the rest of the week to see if other teams circle back and give them a better offer?

Why was the return so light for such a good relief pitcher?

They should have waited longer to get a better deal.

Oh wait, sorry, we only say negative things if it's the Mets making the deal even though this one appears to be roughly identical in form.

So essentially an older relief pitcher prospect in Carroll (similar to Wahl), a nothing in Rogers, and a former prospect who is well on the way to being a bust and isn't highly regarded in Tate.

Or, in other words, almost the exact same thing as every other rental reliever has gotten since the deadline last year based on the deals I posted the other way.

Why is Tate a bust?

Carroll is better than wahl and Tate’s not exactly a bust.

Had Britton not gotten hurt over the winter he probably returns more.

Aaron Boone has the greatest bullpen assembled in the history of the sport. TBH a bullpen Rays game should he used in the playoffs/WC game if needed. Just a massive tactical advantage that must be utilized.
